Ladies and Gentlemen,
As a long time lurker, and sometime commentator, I feel slightly guilty about asking for advice but this seems to be the best place to ask this particular question.
My son has a 51 plate KA, 54K miles from new, 3 owners, full service history, very recent clutch, good tyres, very clean interior blah blah blah.
Bad bits:- pretty much has a dent on every panel (put there by my Godson, the middle owner) has a broken steering lock (that is my fault…) Wont idle, needs a new battery.
So, with that out of the way what is the question?
1. Is it worth repairing the steering lock, sticking a ticket on it and making it a bit more presentable and move it on. 2. Stick a ticket on it and flog it as is. 3. Have been offered £200 by the local scrapper but I think it is too good to send it over the bridge 4. Take the Big Block and 4 speed sitting in the garage and make it into something Ed Roth would come up with after a bad acid trip.
He has no need for the car as he is off to Uni in September and I am bored with having it on the drive.
So…What’s it worth and what would you do? Will take some pictures tonight to help your thought process
My vote is option 4 naturally….
P.

I was really pondering your options, thinking what would be sensible. Until I saw your fourth option.
I'd be very surprised if you get anyone voting for anything except number 4

Unfortunately my diseased mind sees this on a Street Digger style chassis already....
However, back in the world of Uni fees and multiple offspring I think it has to go, just what is the best way of getting it moved on.

Just sort it and flog it on as its one of those cars people who have just passed there driving test love !!!!! As long as its sensibly priced it should fly out mate ,and should be fairly easy and cheap to sort out in first place

The steering lock will need to work for the MOT. The erratic or non idle will probably be the idle vale or the need for a service which is an easy fix. If you want to scrap it the engine/ box will sell itself, the wheel/tyres will sell If you know they are in very good nick. Someone might want the interior and then weigh in the rest. If you ticket it to sell it on you won't make much money. Rothing it is just a waste of your time and effort, no KA deserves a second chance.

Scrap it. It ain't worth looking at let alone fixing. If you tax and mot it it wil be worth £250. Since the scrap will give you £200 it's not worth messing with. Dents everywhere. What you going to do, fill sand and spray it? Nope. I find its mainly the ladies who go for these when they pass but I have never known a woman to want a car with a dent in it (they like to do that themselves).
Scrap it!!!

I was talking to a local garage owner about one of these the other day. He has a nice one in good shape on a 53 plate but cannot sell it for trying. I say Option 4 all day long.

It's the age-old problem of the "unloved" stage that cars have to go through. One day it will be cool, and I so wish I had a barn or similar which cars like this could be taken into and left.
It would go in as a worthless and unwanted little car and emerge, blinking in the sunlight, as an exciting "barn find" in a decade or two.
Of course, if you have the time and the inclination for the Roth option, well...

If its not rotten (and they do like to rot), with a fresh MOT on it and a wash and polish you shouldn't have any trouble shifting it for £500

Well, thank you all for the advice.
The Ka is just not my sort of thing at all. For a start it shares the steering with the driven wheels and... Well that is more than enough for it to be on my 'Not Want'' list.
That being said, mechanically it is too good to scrap and the dealer fitted option of terminal rot was not ordered on this particular model so going to fix it and sell it on
So, next question from me, any one suggest a breakers yard where I can get the steering lock and a near side wing in metallic red?
It truly doesn't warrant a thread of its own but will throw up some pictures just for the amusement of all.
Thanks.
P.

Hateful little cars. I'd scrap it just to rid the world of at least one of them.

Gents,
Apologise for my tardiness, sort of forgot about it.
Pleased to announce that this has been moved onto a local 'yoof' who has repaired it and is now running it about.
Could have got £200 from the scrappy but he was so keen inlet him have it for £140 so sort of feel I have do e my good deed for the month.
As for the engine and box... Watch this space. Well not 'this' space but another one.
