Hello there RR Forum.
I've sold the traveller Subaru and now I only have the Imp (my other car is a company car) The insurance is due on the Imp, I want to keep it on a classic policy as it was super cheap and I only did 42 miles in the past year. BUT I'd like to transfer my 7 years NCD onto that policy.
Does anyone know of any classic policies that'll let me use my NCD?
Thank you.

Hi
We've been doing this for years, essentially you transfer your NCD but as no classic policy allows it to increase it stays in hibernation.
However when I've come to insure a newer car through the same company they've honoured my 7yrs and added what I would have had accrued.
I'm with Adrian Flux classic currently and transferred 9yrs NCD this way.
Cheers Nick

They don't like the fact that I live in France, even though I have a house in the UK, I am working for a UK company, PAYE and taxed in the UK, the car is kept and only driven in the UK (43 miles in total last year) but for some reason they don't want my money...

That's curse word of AF Try Lancaster or Footman James, everyone I've ever used transfers NCD. *edit, that's actually annoyed me... what difference does it make, I'd be inclined to not tell them seeing as they email the policy nowadays anyway.

I don't know what difference it makes. Silly me for being honest eh?

Surely the operator at the other end must have misunderstood, if the car is in the UK, Insured at a UK residence and only driven when you are in the UK, it makes no odds where you are based the rest of the time if the car stays in the UK.
Only if you took it abroad would they need to be informed, I'd be inclined to phone back and speak to an supervisor.

I think I might do, my IP phone is playing up at the moment, won't let me call the 0800 number. I'd never drive it to France, it would kill me and my wallet.

That number works. Excuse is "We're just a broker, everyone we work with require you to live in the UK for a minimum of 6 months per year" Pretty gash.

Ok What if you have a named driver insured on it and is a "UK resident"?

I am still a UK resident though, I decided to carry on paying tax and ni when I moved here. I could opt out but thought one day I'd return. I'll try a few other insurance companies, if it's the same answer, I'll be forced to go with laid up insurance just to keep it covered while I'm away and then if/when I'm back temp insure it I guess.

Sorry I meant what if you have a named driver on the policy using it that isn't in France currently I.E. Say my Wife, Girlfriend, Life Partner, Husband needs to use my car whilst I'm working abroad, as a named driver are they then not allowed to drive because the main policy holder happens to be out of the country for 6 months? How do the Forces spouses cope? Seriously go with some other broker and just don't mention you are out of the country. *Edit - NCD lasts for 18 months if you are struggling...

I might have to tell a few white lies. HAGERTY could do it and park my no claims, but they can't insure a car as modified as mine. The search continues.

Don't tell white lies. You'll get an insurance certificate, but if you have to claim, you'll find out you are not insured if you've misrepresented something that may materially affect the insurer's decision to accept the risk - astonishingly even if the misrepresentation made you more of a risk than the correct fact, they can avoid paying out. Anything they an do to avoid paying, they will.
