This may have been mentioned before, however.... Has anyone else noticed that oil prices have gone through the roof? I usually treat the 2cv to a change with Castrol GTX 15w40, the last 5 litre bottle of which I purchased from Motorworld in Stafford cost me 13.00. However, on a return visit today I found that the same bottle of oil would now set me back a whopping 24.99!!! Even Tesco own brand was expensive at 18.99! the budget oil was cheap but theres no way I'm putting anything with a Tesco Value label thats cheaper than bottled water into my car. Anyway, I did a tour of Motor Factors, Garages, Service Stations, Supermarkets, same story! any descent looking oil was close to or over the 20 quid mark!! In the end on my way home I popped into my local Total garage of all places. Sure enough, a 5 litre bottle of "Total Premium Quartz 5000 15w40" was 18 quid, cheapest quality oil I found all day. I think its the first time the local Total garage has been cheapest for anything! So what the bloody hell is going on with oil prices then as my regular oil has gone up over a tenner??!!

Oil went up by 30-40% last year (same time as petrol hit £1 a litre)and although crude oil has come down in price it takes a long time for blended oils to come down in price.

Castrol has been steadily getting hugely expensive.
Luckily all my old engines like the £3.99/gallon 20W50 bargain chipfat from the motorfactors.

whats going on with oil prices...? In a word I-R-A-Q. you can't have a 'conflict' costing 1 billion USD a month ( or was it a week) without some one paying for it. I run my merc 6.3 on the cheapest 20/50 I can find and change it often. I can buy it in the supermarket for a lot less than you lot are paying. I have found that even the crappiest generic brands are just as good as the most expensive stuff.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

We recently bought 5 litre of 20/50 from our village garage for less than a tenner!
Personally, I have no problem with chucking cheap oil into my 2CV. With oil changes every 3000 miles (as well as a little topping up in between) there isn't any point buying expensive stuff! 147,000 miles now and still running sweet.

I used to drive for a haulage firm that had a diesel card that could be used at shell to buy oil. Oil just came up on the reciept as "oil" so I often bought te most expensive oil I could find for my mk4 escort. Place I work at now doesnt use fuel cards though
