Hi all il give a quick intro and then show you my baby , I decided to join up after coming to retro rides 2013 I travelled 175miles to come down and I wasn't disappointed , loved the show and some of the cars on show where top notch , after finding out there was a forum in the rewards event of the day I just had to join . now to the car , I've had this about a year and it was a dull white standard 205 with gold wheels . ive resprayed the car I. Diablo red ive colour coded the trims - did myself painted the wheels wwhite had the rear beam fully rebuilt down to the last seal and bearings also lowered 40mm front lowering 40mm It has a retro debadged front grill which I made and painted mmyself has an auto bonnet which I painted myself ( proudest panel I've ever painted) just a small section on me just before I hit you with the pics , I've been into cars for 4-5 years I've only owned 3 cars 2 306 1.4s and this amazing little car 1.9205gti , about a year ago I decided I wanted to learn to paint , and took some basic advice of a friend that had done it for 8years but that's all it was just advice . In that time I've self taught myself by making mistake after mistake but have had a workshop built on my dads land with some basics things like a extractor and plugs and lights etc , its not body shop standard but its out the way and does ok for me at this time , it's not been till recently that I've started to hit the nail on the head and get some decent jobs done , bonnet and the grill are the last 2things I've painted , still have a lot to learn but I am progressing slowly Ok so some pis a sad end to the day however , owning this car has been a pleasure never really let me down and as I have made a great friend who knows his stuff he has helped me many times in doing all mechanical work , but despite this an absolute heartbreaker on the way home , about 10 miles in the 175mile journey home the headgasket blew and as I had no breakdown cover it cost me a tidy sum of £520 to get her home , my friend was straight in to help me and yesterday we made sure it was the head and it was haha so as it stands I have no car and its sat in my garage at home with no head but I'm hoping to have her back running in the next 2 weeks

That`s a cracking looking motor, not over the top but just right. The wheels look great in white, really nice job.
Absolute barsteward about the head gasket though, typical it goes when miles from home.

So let's see , time to revive this and keep it updated so a few months after my last update I got a new car a 106gti and as the 205 ran out of tax and mot and had developed a starting issue I parked her on my drive and left her for 14months , (yes I'm an idiot) ..... But after my life had changed with what can only be described as a terrible year 2014 , I wanted to put some good into it , after some curse word at one of my jobs I ended up being a mechanic for 5 months or so , I didn't no hardly anything when I started and the job itself turned out to be curse word and money was terrible and I was treat like a mug , rest assured I got out of it and got myself back on track , however one big thing I did get from doing that was confidence and a better understanding of things . So after a few weeks of leaving I decided to turn my attention to the 205 and decided I was going to try and fix her . So I decided first place I would look it the starter motor which I changed After this she fired up to my delight but was running horribly , I messed around with the afm and managed to get her running nice (for all of 1min ) then she spluttered and stalled and would not start I noticed she was low on fuel so I put £5 worth of petrol in and boom , ran sweet as a nut I was over the moon , this just urged me on and literally one night I decided I was going to restore her to original colour and get rid of any rust and clean up the engine bay etc and that weekend I freed off the seized on rear brakes and put her in the garage for the first stages of the strip down I started by removing bumpers and side trims I then stripped off the entire front end and the water bottle and expansion tank bottle At this point I had removed all the pipes , clutch cable and gear linkages so it was time to remove the wiring loom off the engine At this point I was waiting for the car to be transported to a proper garage where I had come to am agreement with the owner that I could do the rest of the work there by myself eg engine out and painting etc , so I turned my attention to some other parts Now I do have my own workshop and spraying gear it's nothing fantastic but it's good to do side trims and stuff just cannot fit a full car in there etc , so as the plan for the car is to go original with a few modern touches I wanted to put the rear panel back to a standard one. So I dug out my old badges for the rear boot panel and set about restoring them. After this my original transport date had being changed so I decided to remove the inlet manifold and split it all up for cleaning etc With it all nicely split up I polished the fuel regulator I then polished the coilpack holder And the fuel rail I also clean up the throttle body with some engine paint and lacquer It was the. Time for her to leave my home and go to the place her transformation will take place I also took out the windows and door mirrors before hand , ps this is on arrival at the new place After this i removed engine oil gearbox oil , and drive shafts , I've also removed alternator and power steering pump ready for clean up aswel as removing the lights wiring etc , I forgot to get pics of this today but I will get some more in the week for you all aswel as rust and the engine being removed etc . And one last thing I spend hours polishing the face of the inlet manifold aswel This will now be updated regular so keep an eye out

It will be going to its original alpine white colour , but with a few modern touches , all trims will be done in a nice high gloss black , keeping the smoothed front grill but il be giving her more lows on some nice deep dish alloys , under bonnet will be clean with some polished up bits for something a bit different

Nice work on those badges, they look mint.
Feel your pain on the job front, in 2003 I was made redundant from a very good job and the industry I'd worked in since finishing my HND (semiconductor manufacturing) collapsed as all the big players quit the UK for Asian factories. A string of curse word jobs followed and basically you end up back at the bottom after years shimmying up the greasy pole. I now work for myself, it's great but the boss is an a$$hole.
Back to the Pug, truly the King of Hot Hatches. I owned a low miler '89 1.9 back in the late 90s, blew it up, rebuilt it, rolled it, sold it! Best point to point car I've owned, unbeatable on a twisty B road. Owned or drove most of the usual candidates back in the day and the 205 GTi was the one. They're so simple, just a snall, light car with a big engine and the focus on handling rather than turbos or electronic gizmos. Looked great in red, but IMO better in original white. Good luck with the project.

Plenty of people End up selling there projects and extras when times get hard that was one thing I was determined not to do and the fact I'm doing most of this myself and 2 years or so ago I new absolutely nothing , will be a big personal achievement and I don't think I could ever sell her afterwards, anyway hopefully have some more pics tonight of her with the engine out

I keep seeing these threads for bringing 205s back to life and it makes me feel a bit lazy as mine has sat there unloved for the best part of 7 years removing bits and bobs over the years. I told myself I need to pull my finger out and do something and at one point I started striping down but the single garage just isn't big enough its even smaller when it has a Dimma kit fitted.
Mine will be back I've owned it over a decade now and its been through the lows, but I have plans to keep mine in its 2000's guise of big wide arches and lairy wings but like yours this time its staying Alpine white.

Aye I want it on a spit, take everything off and start over again, with the bigger picture. One day I'll draw up a plan and think how and such but after the first decade it gets easier to walk past and not feel so guilty
