It is with a very heavy heart that I have decided to sell my beloved 1977 Mk1 Ford Granada 3-litre Ghia... Another project, and not alot of space, has forced my decision so it has to go!
This superb car is a Post 1976, Series 2 (registered 17/03/1977) model and it truly is splendid... It has the superbly macho 3-litre Essex V6 engine mated to Ford's super smooth automatic transmission and it drives, and sounds, like nothing else on this Earth...!!! It is showing just over 60,000 miles which is genuine, it feels taught and the MOT's also back this up. The car was rust proofed from new (you can see the plugs where the probes went in to the body!) but, although it has kept it in mainly good condition, it has not stopped a bit of rust appearing here and there on the body.
As you can see the bodywork is in the wonderful shade of metallic Saturn Gold with the statutory contrasting vinyl roof in Black... To be perfectly honest, the car could do with some TLC as with it being a Ford of the 1970's there is some rust to deal with. This is not to say that it is not presentable but to be truly A1 this would need attending to sooner rather than later. The main bodywork issues include the bootfloor wheel-well area that needs replacing (a common Mk1 Granada rot spot!) and the front wings could do with some repair work (not replacement, they're good enough to be repaired)... On the plus side it is structurally solid and still very tidy meaning any restoration work should be relatively simple (please note the use of the word relatively)!
The luxuriously trimmed interior is in black velour and save for some wear to the drivers seat (the foam within the side of the squab, not the material itself) it is a truly glorious, infinitely comfortable, place to be. The woodwork on the door tops and dashboard is very good and the carpets are still in very good condition as befits its relatively low mileage (approx 60,000). One thing that does need attention is the delicate 'cloud grey' headlining fabric, it needs replacing as repairing it is beyond question!
This wonderful car comes with a load of old MOT's dating back to the early 1980's and some paperwork to show what work has been done over the last few years... Although I would've have prefered a more extensive service history when I purchased the car I thought this was enough for me to ensure that the mileage was correct and that it had been well looked after prior to my ownership.
So to sum up this is a fantastic, usable, piece of Fords history from, probably, its most prolific and interesting period in the UK... As well as that, I am sure I do not need to tell you how rare these cars are now with only around 300 or so still alive in England right now!!! I do not want to sell this car but I have to so it must go to a true Granada enthusiast who is going to maintain it as it is or bring it back to its 'factory finished' glory... This is a very rare car in a very appealing colour combination so please save it! I would be lying if I said it didn't need any work doing to it as it really does but once attended to this would make a cracking example of Fords luxo-barge for the masses...
If I do not find a suitable buyer I will keep it (I'll find some space to stash it somewhere, anywhere)...!!! Telephone offers will not be accepted, if you're interested in this car then you should really come and view it before making an offer. If anybody out there has any questions or queries please get in touch with me & I will try to answer you the best I can...
