Love the flake and the front safari window!! Has it been channeled? Seems like the engine is too high up in the rear and the seats too high inside?

Love the flake and the front safari window!! Has it been channeled? Seems like the engine is too high up in the rear and the seats too high inside? The engine and seats both look stock height to me. I think it's just slammed on the deck. There isn't really any reason to channel a Beetle. You can raise the gearbox/engine, but the seats would stay at the same height. Other than that, I concur completely with what you said!

Pure awesomeness, ticks a lot of scene boxes, but stands out anyway.

I saw it there Sunday, the work that had gone into it was great - not sure on the paint choice myself, it looks better in the pictures than in the flesh in my opinion, a little too sparkly for me
I was amazed to see it drive off the field and out of the show under its own go too, was expecting a trailer to come and pick it up

I love it*
*If it were mine, it'd be brown. But it's far more interesting as it is.

I missed the awards at the end, so I don't know who won what but it certainly was attracting quite a crowd. I agree with you Lawsy, I wasn't too sure on the paint, it did look super shiny, but I didn't get a chance to have a feel. Either way, I think the chap did all the work himself and there was a fair few custom touches on it. Getting flake 'right' isn't an easy task! Thanks for putting it up on here Mr. Bizzle

I was 100% ready to hate on this from the title, but I 1000% love it!!! lovely choice of colour, bit too much bling on the engine for my tastes but compliments the paint well. (remember kids chrome don't get you home)
It's not been channeled, the deck lid is sitting behind the fan shroud giving the impression the engine is higher than stock, but if you look at the bottom pulley it's in the stock position
All round I would say this was a pleasant surprise for the eyes

It was in air ride which is why it was able to sit on the pan like that. In the sunshine, it was a refreshing change to the usual VW show stuff. It was de-seamed, front safari, narrowed, air-ride, engine was chromed to death with some nice flake detailing of the dizzy and carbs. The engine bits were 'right' too, petronix dizzy, coil etc and a serpentine pulley etc. the interior was quite funky, smooth dash, very clever flaked and detailed Flat4 banjo steering wheel, stock seats in white etc. Overall a real mix of old school 80's custom and bang upto date suspension and mechanicals. Sitting there by the beach in blazing hot sunshine it was a real crowd pleaser. Like has been said, the paint wasn't just a flake, it was a REALLY heavy flake, heavier than many beach buggies, so much so it covered alot of the curves on the body, the owner said 19 layers it took!!!!!!

First can I say thank you to all of those that are liking my car, very very much appreciated.
The car is a mixture elements, owning modifying the car through the last 20 plus years, then over the last 10 years on and off, on this rebuild, I've put everything I like from everything I've ever seen, adding it to what I have and put it all into one - its what I wanted to see - just for me, for no one else. And so I chose to name the car..
The Revival.
I just read through the posts and thought I'd answer 'quickly' here to answer some of the 'mysteries'. So just simply working top to bottom ;
Safari window (wasn't bought) - I made it! using rear bug pop out frames, mixed with split type 2 safari components. No, its not channeled (but has had a ton of work to sit that low). The engine and gearbox HAS been raised almost 2 inches to make everything still JUST about fit perfect - the rear valance and surround tin remade to match the new position - tricked yah!. Did all the work myself - absolutely everything!, no training, I taught myself over the years to do it all - the whole thing.. built entirely in a simple small cold rented lockup (start to finish with nobody helping to do any of it at all). The only single thing I didn't do was dip the chrome. Air ride? - No. Hydraulics with accumulators. Was first fitted with rams and coil over setup (typical lowrider old school set up) in 1993, later reworked with accumulators and custom made rams in 1995 which it still is sitting on now.. Yes it was (almost) this low back then! Narrowed front beam 1994, gear box raise 1995. Engine - this isn't just chrome - 2021cc stroker engine with all the 'good' bits (all bought second hand but new (I ain't rich!), over the years.). Carefully reworked chrome engine tins and fitted with full flow filtered and thermostat electric fanned oil radiator to help my chrome 'get me home', hehe. And yes I painted it all in just my lock up - indeed over 19 plus coats on every panel.. outside, inside, upside down..
Result ; Beach Buggin 2013 BEST BEETLE Result ; Beach Buggin 2013 BEST OF SHOW
Thankyou, Shawn.
