Got a new set rear tyres for the dolomite a few days ago, was able to get hold of some uni royal ralleys for about £18 quid each so was well chuffed. Anyways went down the town today to get them fitted and i was amazed at how many garages were unhelpfull the first place i went to said "oh we cant fit tyres that you've brought, as our insurance doesnt cover that" i spose that is fair enuf. so i go down the road to find that the next garage wanted £19 per wheel to get them done. i was shocked and got out of there abit quick. went to a well recomended garage and they cudent fit me in. so overall had a rather unproductive day rant over Ryan

i don't believe the insurance bullsh*t for a second! i know a company in Essex who charge a tenner a corner. Probably a little too far for you though

Bit far but Basic Tyres in Stone, Staffs where I live will em for 3 quid a corner.
The guy that works there has never quibbled about fitting tyres for me although he has mentioned after checking the date code on some michelins I picked up (they were 2006 lol) that hes not allowed to fit tyres over a certain age.

The place I use (which is really good) won't fit any tires but they're own. But then they have really good prices for new ones anyway and getting cheaper ones elsewhere (eg online) becomes not so cheap once finding someone to fit them comes into play.

Its well within a garages rights to refuse to fit tyres they've not supplied.
Should you get hold of some hookey tyres that a re defective and they fit them. You then go and crash coz of the defective tyres, and the garage will be to blame for fitting them.
Its not very helpful I know, but there is some justification in it.

www.tyre-shopper.co.ukWhack your postcode in the box half way down on the left and it will give you a list of local fitting centres that should be willing to help.

Most breakers yards have a machine and will do it for a reasonable price, but in my experience the saving on tyres from buying without fitting is not the saving it appears!

I've been charged £5 per wheel for fitting my own tyres.... he did want to check them first to make sure they weren't obviously knackered though.
What it comes down to is they can make far more profit supplying and fitting than just fitting.... it takes the same time and they'd rather have 40% markup on a £60 tyre than £5 just for fitting. Sad but true, profit is god.

i thought i was overcharged when i paid £10 per wheel! in the past I've had them done for £5, and once or twice completely free! (at the smae time they were adjusting my exhaust- also for free!)
