my mk2 fiesta still has the original ford VV carb, most of you's will know they're pretty curse word. However mine has covered 74k and it still runs perfect.
i've been reading about the weber conversion and its claims of better mpg and performance, but are these claims actually true? I don't want to buy a carb, change it and have zero benefits, especially since my VV is doing its job just fine
has anyone here done the swap and would recommend it?
cheers

A new Weber is going to better than an aging VV. The VV is not a bad carb per se. But not much can be done with it in terms of tuning, and they can be temperamental in normal running.
The direct swap out for the VV was either the Weber 32IBF (1300) or 34IBF (1600). More scarce is the Dellorto conversion, can't recall the model number off the top of my head though.
If the unit in your car is largely un-molested, then I would be inclined to leave it as is, with intentions to rebuild / upgrade when it's necessary. Few CVH's will solider on past 100k without a full rebuild, never mind the state of the top end. CVH cams are practically a service item! Unless you should know otherwise, it's probably safe to assume the engine is tired / worn. Subsequently, bolting on a new carb may bring back some sparkle, but won't suddenly transform it I would think.
If you are still serious about converting from the VV, I shall try and dig out and scan the article I have detailing the swap / results

thanks for the reply, some very useful info there my fiesta is the 1100 so it has the valencia/x-flow block. I would like a little more power and i've been told the mk3 fiesta has a twin choke weber which will go right onto my manifold but i've only heard this from one person, it doesn't seen like a popular swap for some reason. I think since my VV is still working as it should, i would like to leave it alone until i can get some proof of the actual benefits of the weber. No point fixing something that isn't broken!

Ah, silly me presuming it to be a CVH!
Not familiar with the cross flow setup unfortunately.
