Is it weird that I wrote him a note telling him about Retro-Rides.com and that it would be cool if he could come to some oldskool car meets in the midlands, and left it under his wiper?
I don't wanna seem like a freaky geek-face, but he drives a stripped and caged black MK1 on Revos, so surely he must undestand what it's all about?
I put my phone number and e-mail address down anyway, so we shall see what comes of it!

Nothing weird about spreading the gospel. When I was in a local one-make Mini owners' club we used to have 'Promo Raid' days when we went out and flyered as many cars as we could...two people to a car, and drive down every road in an alloted area putting flyers under windscreens, chasing down cars on roads, leaping out at traffic lights and shoving them through windows...then meeting up afterwards over a Maccy and comparing notes....great way of spending a sunday afternoon, and we got a fair few new members out of it. Might be worth someone making a downloadable pdf flyer that was could print off at home for this purpose!! (waits for the inevitable backlash from environmentalists/people who hate having their cars flyered)

Whenever I talk to someone with a cool car and mention 'internet' they just randomly walk off and/or make their excuses.
Bizarre.

Yeah i like the idea of an a5 size flyer that could be printed and stuck under wipers to spread the word, for the RR show too.

personally i don't read anything thats been stuck under my wipers same as i don't read any rubbish that comes through the letter box, it just irritates me.
probably just cos I'm a grumpy old git though.

I only mention to people who I know will appreciate the place. I try speak to locals if I can, I feel like i'm stalking a neighbour with a lovely slammed MK1 Cortina, not sure how approachable he is, he doesnt glance at my lovely Ford garden ornaments when i'm there! I'll chat when I see him! Sadly the owner of this that me and hairpin met outside my house, did not seem bothered about washing the crud from the arches, and giving a lick of paint, I directed him towards FS(sierra)OC , though I don't know if he will, he seems more keen to find a ready painted red bonnet for a tenner! NIce car fair milage twink in ghia trim and currently savable, I have a feeling he'll come back t me when its dead. I want it now LOL

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

to him its probably just cheap transport. I have a mate who gets really arzey when he sells a cheap classic that a lot of the buyers are obviously just "cheap suffers who want any tax exempt car for £500 or less which will last 2 years being run into the ground before they scrap it"
Some people look at you like you've grown an extra head when you tell them about an owners club or a local classic/retro meet let alone the horrors of the internet.

Yeah it was a cheap runner to be fair, he seemed a bit enthusiastic, however said it had been in the family for a long while, suppose it doesnt mean it will be cherished even if he did replace the bonnet after a accident. I was just reassuring him that its got potential to last, even if people tell him its curse word old banger, even on the club some cars are just dailys. Anyway Mk1 Escort different league these days!

I keep an inch-thick pile of the original RR flyers in my car, I flyer anything suitable when I can - except when it's raining or looks like it will, nobody appreciates soggy paper stuck on their screen ;D
