Well, me being me after a holiday down in Cornwall I decided what I needed in my life was an old boat, so again me being me, promptly went out and bought two... (and my wife almost talked me into buying a third today...)
One is an early eighties Fletcher 146 15ft speedboat, it's a tiny little thing but I love it, very pretty and distinctive boat, will be perfect for just a bit of fast cheap fun, quite a rare thing now, cant find any real info to it..
sorry for ebay pics, my own will come soon (in the readers other modifications thread)..
It needs a new floor and various bits and bobs, but the hull is pretty good. I bought these seats to go with it, which my wife is going to recover..
I then found I'd won another auction that I'd stuck a super low bid in on and bought this Oldenburg 18ft sports/cabin boat..
'Lots' of fun ensued collecting them both with my flatbed car trailer as neither came with a boat trailer (the Oldenburg is fekin heavy) with 700 miles put on My Range Rover in one weekend, a lot of LPG burnt and one night sleeping in a lay by by order of the Kent Police after my trailer lights gave up at 1:30 am...
I also managed to score this very Retro Chrysler 70hp outboard, not sure which boat I'm gonna stick this on yet but we'll see weather I win any of the others I'm bidding on!
Basically I know sweet FA about fibreglassing, or boat building, but I'm pretty good with engines, and I've done quite a few boat engines now, the Oldenburgh is missing the floor, and the Fletcher needs a new floor too, plus several other GRP repairs, I'm watching the youtube guides, but they are all American and when I try to find the materials all the names are different.. As some of you know I restore cars for a living so I'm pretty practical, but i could really do with some good pointers here, if anyone who is good with fibreglass would like to swap a days welding or mechanical work for some GRP work I'd be up for that (all materials supplied..)
I'll be building the two trailers myself probably using a caravan chassis like this as a starting poin,t anyone whose got anything similar for sale please get in contact..
I'm also after steering system cables and engine controls and a radio etc etc..
ANY advice other than 'give up' gratefully received,
