So bored of the Jag Plus its its only doing 17-18 mpg..... So I think I may get rid and get something totally different! I still have my bug insurance running so I'm hoping I can swap them over easily enough, and I know where I can find a car, but it's the gear stick I'm worried about!!!! I have plenty of experience of 2cv's being a passenger, and also been involved in an accident in on so I know they crumple like a crisp packet , But after 6 months of driving a big 'self driving' jag, I think it's time I got back to basics!

Well, there's nothing like a contrast, is there? You've probably come to the right forum to be convinced of it though, there seem to be a lot of lovers of the old Deux Chevaux here!!!!!

Yay! Get one! Or a Dyane! Just as good and cheaper. Just back from the first 2CV camp of the season - loads of 2CVs filling the roads of the Peak District confusing/annoying people in equal measure!

(snip) I still have my bug insurance running so I'm hoping I can swap them over easily enough, and I know where I can find a car, but it's the gear stick I'm worried about!!!! I have plenty of experience of 2cv's being a passenger, and also been involved in an accident in on so I know they crumple like a crisp packet , But after 6 months of driving a big 'self driving' jag, I think it's time I got back to basics! Gearstick is soon got used to and very logical for 3 point turns (reverse opposite 1st) But is there an answer to the lack of impact protection - maybe a roll cage that isn't too intrusive?

Easier way to solve the impact protection thing is don't crash! ;D
Seriously though, the racers put roll cages in so it is possible. But with such a narrow car, intrusion is going to be impossible to avoid. It'll be tight!
As for the gearchange, you soon get used to it and it is one of the sweetest shifts man has ever made. Don't forget that there is no synchromesh on 1st gear so never try to select it whilst the car is moving (unless you can double-declutch which is a useful skill!).
Get one and then join us on our monster road trip to the World Meeting of 2CV Friends in Sweden this Summer!

This is a Dyane Same running gear, slightly more streamlined. Same wacky gearshift and cornering technique!

2CV is the daddy but I do like Dyanes as well. Collectively, these strange little Citroens are known as A Series and I want an example of each variation! My dream garage is enormous - and that's just for the French selection...(now where can I find a Panhard?)
