Ok - I don't know if this is even possible but here goes. I've got a Saab 9000 with no struts in it that I need moving to the local scrapyard to weigh in. I was hoping to find someone with a winch that could possibly drag it on using scaffold boards or similar? The hubs are still fitted so I could fit some wheels they would hit the inner arches though and I'd need the wheels back. I also have quite a bit of other scrap to fill it with to get the weight up. I'm in Hindhead just off the A3 , car needs to get to Aldershot , about 12 or 13 miles. I'm not quite ready yet, just trying out different options - anyone able to help? Wiling to pay obviously. Mark

Why don't you just phone a scrappy to take it away , i could do it and would give you a few quid but scraps down to around a £110 a tonne so wouldnt offer much

The ones near here wont collect without wheels on. There are 3 engines, a few rads, a cat, quite a few ally bike wheels/frames, 2 cyl heads and a whole load of other scrap to fill it with so a fair amount of weight. I hadn't realised it had dropped as much, was £150/tonne at the start of the month!

If there's something you can brace them against you can 'make' struts out of 4x2 or bigger X-section wood e.g 3x3 or 4x4 gate posts. I've done it on a Mk2 golf and a scirocco. It's easy on the back on those as there's a ledge at the back of the hub to sit the wood on. The front is trickier - I hacked holes in the wood for the strut mounting uprights on the back of the hub to fit to, and bolted through them, but it wasn't really strong enough to steer with. It was a fair bit of work. If the track control arm/wishbone is at the right place, you can rest the wood on that and lash the top part of the hub to it. Top end of the wood was in the bottom of the strut top mount.
But.... BE CAREFUL, keep your hands out from under the wheel arches when moving the car, as it might collapse, and try to line it up with the trailer first to minimise steering.
The cars I've done this on are much lighter than a saab, and had no engine, but it was still marginal. If you choose to do it, it's at your own risk.

I did contemplate something similar but tacking some of the bits of scrap in to act as struts.
