So, my second car in as many years. first came the Mini (Classic), and now this, almost the complete opposite. This car was bought from Mystery Machine without actually driving it. Then had to wait another week (almost) and then threw myself in at the deep end by changing the timing belt and the water pump. which took a whole weekend. the above replaced this: there also had to be some welding and a new 'zorst (courtesy of Rich) Welding: 'Zorsting: yes the tip is blue, and straight. Because I ruined the original down turn, with my less-than-useful angle grinder skills... Then came the MOT which threw this up: oh dear... somehow missed that when going over the car but it soon became this (by soon, I mean 3 days later): only just realised it is blurry, but you get the idea... also needed a new front number plate, which is a shame as the ones on there when I bought it were the originals also changed the alternator belt (in the same condition as the timing belt and was very schreechy) and made the front washer jet work (blocked). I think that's it for now, and this thread will probably just be me keeping track of what I end up doing to the car. I will admit that I am unlikely to make many drastic changes to the car as it has been bought to act as a vaguely interesting and reliable daily. thanks for reading so far, Rob

Subscribed, obviously. That sill was quite a challenge then by the looks of it. Sorry to hear it was hiding more grot than we thought but at least that is all taken care of now

Now I'm nervous about the bubbling on the rear of my sill! Might have to give it a little tap with the hammer when I get round to de-rusting my rear end. Looking forward to seeing the progress! Bookmarked

Bookmarked Haha when I saw and poked it crumbled instantly. I think if you have already had a good poke around you should be okay (touch wood) I have taken some pictures when doing the timing belt/ water pump, but they may or may not be of any use to you when you come to doing yours...

so last night this happened: took two hours to get that flipping pedal box out of the car. And managed to break the clutch cable in the process as the nuts were practically welded on with rust. which meant the end snapped off whilst I was trying to undo it to give the cable some slack. so now I'm waiting for a new one. still in the mean time, the pedal box had this done to it: the steel is roughly 3 times thicker than Citroen deemed necessary to install originally. hopefully it should suffice for now and if not, I have a plan to strengthen it properly. It'll get a good coat of paint before it goes back in. which could be some while as I have had to order one in because no one nearby had one. fun times...

I had a tzd about 10 years ago and the pedal went on that one Yeah it is a common problem... Mainly due to a earth shatteringly pathetic design of the bracket by Citroen.

So the clutch cable has been done for a while (and took most of 2 days to fit ) no pics of that as I just wanted to get it done and out of the way. as promised, uppy/downy pics: Up: Middle: Down: yes I realise there is a wheel trim missing, I think when I had new tyres fitted the monkey who did it must have broken it. didn't realise it at the time and then it was gone other than that, there have been a few (read many) LHM leaks, mostly caused by old rubber and probably me being too rough when trying to fix them and pulling more pipes out and it needs front wishbone bushes. And rear arm bearings. yay. that's all for now, Rob

Rear arm bearings are relatively easy on these. I've done 6 or so. If you buy a bearing kit you get a new axle bolt. Make a drift out of the old bolt, works perfectly for removing those stubborn old races. Lots of hammering gets them free.

Can these be driven on the lowest setting or with nose in the air? Was offered one many years ago but had know where to keep it!! They can technically be driven on the lowest setting, but at that point there is no suspension as the thing is sat on the bump stops and has no damping making it very bouncy. (I forgot to put it up before driving it once ) as to having just the nose in the air, not as standard, but you could probably mess around with the height adjustment to raise the front up in 'normal' mode Rear arm bearings are relatively easy on these. I've done 6 or so. If you buy a bearing kit you get a new axle bolt. Make a drift out of the old bolt, works perfectly for removing those stubborn old races. Lots of hammering gets them free. Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to follow it when I do them (fairly soon hopefully!)

You would have to separate the height control rods onto 2 lever as opposed to the one which is linked front to back. Would be fairly easy to do in all honesty. But you wouldn't drive it de-pressurised for long before you trashed it totally. You can however run it slightly off the deck and put a little juice in the spheres by putting the lever just off of de-pressurise. Gives it enough to lift off the stops.

Another day, Another leak. Got in the car this morning and was confronted by this all-too-familiar sight: damn that's blurry but the top oval light says 'STOP!' and the one on the left says '(!)' and the other one is just to say the parking brake is on. oh yay, low LHM. so had a poke around underneath and found this: yummy! I didn't have any inner part handy to connect the two with, but having a look around, I happened to have a couple of these lying around: the connections seemed to be about the right size, so I took the innards out (didn't want any complications) and filed off the barbs (didn't want to over stretch the ancient pipe) and bingo!: I thought that was that, until I had to move it and change the coolant (needed to have at least some antifreeze in there...) at which point I found this: that's green. oh bum. turned out it was a return pipe from the rear which was leaking. no photos (kind of hard to photograph anyhow) but managed to fix it finally. sigh. another leak down, soon I will have gone round the whole car. oh well. 'til next time. Rob
