Err yeah,i didn't mean it literally I think you need to get a lol smilie. It was just a metaphor to show how much I hate seeing cool j-tin bastardised like that.....no matter how tongue in cheek it is. Sorry dude,.. just a bit sensitive to peoples somewhat over zealous reactions to the people that build these cars, as I know a couple of them. Really nice guys

There are elements that appeal - but I find its gone a bit too far! One thing is the utter ridiculous aspect and the fact there is an element of sense of humoor going on. You wouldn't get that in the current oh so serious classic car scene.

they are still japanese chavs, no matter how much you don't want to hear that. check out the guy watching them in the brown jacket. dancing like a..chav.
all i see it as is a bunch of japanese guys havin a laugh and doing something stupid, then as usual everyone over here jumps on board and proclaims it to be so awesome and amazing and you have to "get it" etc etc.. i just think the whole japanese appreciation thing goes too far. I'm sure next they'll do something like shove frogs up their cracks whilst driving and everyone here will be saying " its not stupid its their culture...you just don't get it"
anyway its still funny, just a shame half of the cars sound absolutely curse word

I'm sure next they'll do something like shove frogs up their cracks ive seen a video of 2 J girls with a funnel and some little fish. i have no idea about the history or background to these things, and couldnt particularly care less. i think some of the cars look great, and some look not so great. cant we just like (or dislike) the cars and leave the socialogical side at the front door?

the ones that are abit more tame (i.e no silly exhausts and a slightly more sensible bodykit) actually look pretty good imo as a modified car with a kind of 70s/80s mental track car theme and not as a joke.
its a shame they all sound like 50cc scooters.

True story about Japanese teen gangs. As you probably know my brother Richard has lived in japanan abour 10-12 years. Anyway some years back he shared a flat with this American guy. Basically my bro is 6'5" and 16 stone. The yank was about 6'2" and "ex-marine". anyway coming home from a bar to their place they got circled by 6 or 8 local kids aged 16-19 or so. Well, the biggest of them is going to be half the size of either of the two western guys right. Rich says hes used to laughing off japanese kids who want to try and prove something due to his size... Anyway, one of them who appears to be the leader steps up to Rich and starts giving it some significant verbal. Then pulls a knife. Ex-Marine fella steps in, grabs the kid, headbuts him and breaks his nose. Blood everywhere. Kids scatter everywhere. J gang kid then starts bleating on about how thats "not fair" "you arent supposed to do that" and followed Rich and his mate for about 2 blocks demanding an appology until they picked him up and chucked him in a dumpster or something to get rid of him.
Very odd.

The first time I saw "Bosuzoko" cars, I had an instant dislike for them, but now I can't seem to get enough of 'em (having said that I prefer the flared arches, over the mega boxy ones)
Wish I had the balls to do as the Brit Bosuzoko thread suggested! Personally I think a Austin Montego would make an awesome Bosuzoko car!
I am still yet to be won over by Donks, its the bling bling thing I don't like, still I will probably start liking them soon- RetroRides as a weird effect on me?

I emailed a Japanese friend who kindly wrote back with this: '> Quick Question...what exactly is Bosozoku? > > I have seen the cars on the web but I can't seem to find out more > about its origins and reasoning. I see. Interesting question. Someone has already put partial description on wiki; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C5%8Ds%C5%8DzokuBut the word itself means 'reckless disorderly driving pack' but it isused to describe bunch of juvenile morons ageing from around 14 to early 20s who modify their motor cycles or cars in a way which makes maximum noise possible and often run in packs. Their aim is not to tune the cars to go fast like 'fast and furious' type of way, but to get more attention by putting funny body kits and more noise by removing the exhausts etc. First appearance must be from the 70s when Japan got slightly wealthier and cars and motor cycles got affordable as well as disposable. At the same time, there were added social problem brought together behind the wealth. Some kids did not get the attention from their parents because either they were both working or socially excluded because they could not afford certain commodities. This lead them to form a pack who are up to no good, like spraying graffiti etc. That developed into cars and motor cycles. Time to time there is a rival gang disputes or go on the rampage as you can see from the footage below; and This was one of the biggest incident back in 2001. The gang were attacking police and public with fire works and fire extinguishers in the middle of city centre. In order to avoid further damage and risk to the public the gangs were chased away from the city centre and apprehended later. Most of them do it at night and disturb people from sleeping so some take law into their own hands by putting rope or wire across 2 poles so that the motor cycle gets chopped off etc. As for their cars, it is modified in such way that it is just outrageous. I cannot think of a way to describe this. It is beyond comprehension. Examples are as follows; So, in conclusion, they are just an attention seeking up to no good bunch of morons. Mind you, they are also dying breed as well since most cars are automatic these days in Japan, cars are getting more and more difficult to modify plus police are getting real tough to root them out, so we don't see many of them around. I think the high of their activities must be in the 80s. So, now you know!

Ha....now I understand....the Japanese equivalent of sitting in a retail park in a Tupperware-d Saxo, drinking WKD blue, listening to Eminem and thinking "Ain't we hard, people must think we're fugitive desperados" when in truth we're all thinking "spotty silly-billies"...........Chavs then, basically!!! :-)

I think the high of their activities must be in the 80s. So, now you know! Thing is,.. as I was saying to Rmad the other day, a lot of the bosozoku cars are now driven by older people, former bosozoku who have grown up but maintained their interest in their kind of car... For all of Nick insisting they are the equivalent of "chavs" (what a very lazy word for lower class people that is (say what you mean)), they are much much more the equivalent of 70's and 80's Hells Angels. Nuisance criminal gangs with links to organised crime. When they grow out of that phase that doesn't stop them being into their bikes.

True, even the mods and rockers grew up eventually, but by Kuni's words they have a lot of negative vibes about them - possibly fuelled by Japanese government propaganda?

or fuelled by them being a pain in the arze? If people behaved like that here we'd call them tw@z not heros... Funnily enough we do, and they are the MacDonnalds wannabe crew.
Sure there are people driving modified Saxos and the like who aren't antisocial "tea tray drifters" and the like
but thats where the image comes from.
