I spent last night assembling a bit more on the engine, tested the TT fit and rebuilt the starter and alternator. TT had a lick of paint to protect it Test fitting TT to engine, fitted perfectly so that means my clutch tool worked haha I had a lazy starter...this explains why! Absolutely full of gunk, it was really thick, the amp draw on this must have been huge! Cleaned Painted up The oil has got in everywhere! The alternator had been working fine but wasn't looking too pretty inside Annoyingly one of the brushes fell off the voltage reg, so I need to solder that back together today, then that can go back together Today I'm collecting some more paint, another pair of axle stands and then I'll crack on with getting the back end apart ready for the TT replacement. Fun times... I haven't a clue how much I'll manage, I hope I can finish by tomorrow evening.

Cheers chaps! Since my last update I have: Refurbished windshield trims (straightened, smoothed and painted) went back on with fresh neoprene seals and some fresh clips New hatch pins to replace the sorry looking ones I had before. This required drilling out the old bolts, helicoiling and fitting some new Allen head bolts. Knocking from the back turned out to be the wrong bolt fitted to the gearbox, I used what was already fitted but it turns out that the PO has stripped the thread on the previous bell housing part of the TT and therefore nut and bolted it. I now have a new bolt ready to fit. I have had both my starter and alternator refurbished along with a fresh wiring loom and a new belt  starts really quickly and charges well, can't grumble! A new alternator cooling hose has also been fitted as the old one fell apart. Whilst I was under the bonnet I replaced a slightly crusty injector and all of the spark plugs for Bosch ones. I have been wanting to do something about the interior since getting the car, it's really faded and lets the car down. I looked into the stuff from Werk924 but they let me down so I seeked an alternative. I found out that Dylon works and I got some of the dark brown stuff they do. Boot carpet before: Door bins before: i189.photobucket.com/albums/z301/pauloliver_photos/2014-05-31210821_zps85b13667.jpg[/img] First coat of dye in progress i189.photobucket.com/albums/z301/pauloliver_photos/2014-05-31212537_zpsbb0bf6a2.jpg[/img] Glued the door bin carpet back on as it has never really been that secure! Unfortunately I need the car this week so I have only done one application, I will hopefully not need the car next week and can do all of the carpets properly in the whole car. Boot carpet fitted again: As you can see it is still very faded looking, hopefully more coats of dye will fix that Door bins don't look too bad but weren't as badly faded as the rest The difference is really noticeable in the cabin, even with just one coat it looks so much tidier Glove box is out whilst I investigate a interior fan issue Next jobs: *Finish dying the interior carpets *Repair split seams on seats whilst they are out so I can do the carpets *Fix interior fan issue *Fit new ignition switch *Fit new waterpump hose when it arrives (mine has a hole that's currently plugged with RTV silicone until the new one arrives!), also got a new expansion cap coming as mine looks pretty tired *Fit heat shield material to starter motor *Fit new gearbox bolt *Fit replacement driveshafts from John Eventually: *Rebuild rear brakes as I haven't touched them apart from a rebleed since owning the car *Get pressed plates and frames to go with them *Get a new headlining as mine is falling apart...

Hi Impressive work - i really like the gold wheels too... I need to helicoil my hatch pins. What length were your replacement bolts, and where did you get yours from? Cheers Duncan

I got them from Screwfix, but they needed cutting down to about 10mm IIRC. It was me on the owners club forum who did the helicoiling recently. linkI just trimmed them down with the hacksaw until they fitted correctly, they certainly look neater than whatever the PO had fitted (originally supposed to be a spline fitment)

A few updates: The seats had been sitting in a damp shed for a while... sitting next to the woodburner and a good hoovering has done wonders! Seats side by side, the Porsche ones are overdue a refurb! New brackets being welded on, not much needed doing to make the Impreza seats mount to the Porsche mounting points Seat fitted to the passenger side, works as it should! So much better than the standard tombstones, well happy for £25 and a day to fit (well less than a day as I kept getting interrupted!) I wish my insurance company would let me remove the rear seats, weirdly they won't even though they let me swap the fronts... I'll start making all my new stuff ready for when I change my insurance to a modified policy at the end of summer The Porsche has been looking really sorry for itself recently, it hardly gets used and i've neglected it. After the most painful starting i've ever heard it eventually fired up (these things really do hate sitting about!) and was ticking over as nicely as it ever has done. I need to pull out the headlining as I have a leak somewhere but I can't seem to find it... Meh summer is coming! I decided that seeing as I don't have the cash yet to do the engine swap I might as well get the car looking more presentable for the summer as I have a few trips planned and it'd be nice to use this when the sun is out. The front end really needs some love after the front panel paint reacted and cracked up, as well as the front valance getting damaged when I had the engine out. Spare front valance straightened out and sanded back, then a quick coat of filler primer (I need to get some more). Spare headlight covers sanded back (mine are dented and rusty) Poor car looks shocked.... I have removed the front panel and will it bolt on as per the 944 as It'll need to come off later for intercooler mounting. I guess I'll be using rivnuts to secure it with unless anybody has better suggestions? I need to wash the front panel of the car and give it a lick of paint so it all keeps nice under there. I will have to rework the front duct panel for the intercooler, I want to make it as stealthy an install as possible when I do get round to it

So since my last post I fitted yet another clutch... And after a lonnnng night it was back in. I did it the engine out way again, it was all going well until I refitted the engine and the thing just wouldn't go back in, turns out something was caught and I hadn't noticed. And then after that I've been very busy with finishing my house and hardly had time to do the seemingly endless list of jobs! Digital AAV MK2 in progress, the first version didn't appreciate the heat so this version is remote with a high temperature solenoid. It works but I want to use a microcontroller rather than a temperature activated switch. I wanted to make sure the tank was clean before fitting more new injection parts so I removed the Internal fuel pump, drained the tank and cleaned it all. Surprisingly little rubbish in there, I was very happy! The rubber between the pump and filter had perished, so I cut some fuel hose and squeezed it in. I also took the opportunity to flush out the lines too. Genuine filter fitted after all this as apparently aftermarket ones aren't very good, shame it didn't come with the correct fitting for the bottom but at least I could steal it off my old filter. It's massive compared to aftermarket! The Porsche came to the rescue when I realised that a massive mirror I was given wouldn't fit inside my Astra! This car always impresses me with how useful it can be. The rear wiper has also been refurbished and refitted for winter duties. My spare fuel distributor is in pieces ready for a rebuild, and a refurbished WUR has been fitted. Hopefully this will end my lumpy running woes. I Resoldered my spare TIU, FPR and wiper relay. I figured I should do it as preventative maintenance as they can cause issues for people. A nice bath for the car, even though it is stored under a carport it seems to acquire lots of dirt when not in use! I got a snow foam gun thing for £3! In other car related news, I bought a silly cheap SIP MIG (used once!), I knew it was rubbish but didn't expect the torch to melt apart in my hand. I modified it so it would have variable speed wire feed (with a digital readout) and fitted a new torch so it can take gas bottles, the welder now works nicely, can't grumble for a grand total of £50 inc extras for the mods. This means I can repair my Dansk quickly as it likes to crack every few journeys... I wish that was me exaggerating! I can also weld my drivers wing as the bottom has split a bit. My CJ Autos ramps snapped (just before I got under my car!), they promptly replaced them with the new beefier version...shame they didn't fit correct length bolts, the nylock nuts barely thread on! Never shopping with them again, they were slow to respond and didn't seem to really care. I got given a nice metal lathe, sheet folder, metal shears and anvil+forming tools so once I have a larger garage to keep it all in I can get making some cool stuff. Next jobs on the list are to tidy up the electrics, overhaul the steering, and swap out the gearbox for one I have been cleaning up and replacing the seals on as mine is leaking.

My door seals were very rotten and kept falling off when the doors were opened. Andy from the owners club sorted me with some decent secondhand ones and the car looks just that little bit fresher! Shame it highlights other bad areas but it's all little steps forwards. Old seals That's better! I washed the new ones and gave them some tyre shine treatment Fibreglass turbo valance needed some work so i've done little bits over the week, still not perfect but is far smoother and no bloody stone chip stuff visible! I seem to ruin front valances anyway so it won't be long before it has more paint. It's been filler primered and then had a coat of white primer and a few coats of alpine white. I had to trim a spare grille to fit as the curves on these are not right, I then gave it a quick blast with black satin plastic paint. Looking forward to getting it all fitted
