Nice work on the project. I would thoroughly recomend painting the plate recess black, really so it's the shape.

The next area I wanted to paint on the Porsche was the front badge panel and headlamp covers. Many stone chips, some badly filled in and some rusting away have made it look rather grotty upfront. I had a chance to sand down, treat and primer the panels. They still need a little work but aren't far off being ready! Can't wait to have it looking rust free Just need to sand/fill a few more areas where some little dents have shown up, then paint on tomorrow.

It's not as pretty in the metal, the pics make the paint loook better than it is but its not a bad car. I'm sure yours would put it to shame .At the moment it needs a fuel pump to get it running and hopefully that's all it needs engine wise fingers crossed. Then brake lines and a new washer bottle and new tyres. There are a few more bits I have found that have had a bit of bodge in the past. Like the pepsi max bottle as a washer bottle, iffy wiring and there's lots of paint to do. I might have sorted a pump out so fingers crossed next week I can get it running and then I will have a better idea of the engine condition. Until then I'm just sorting out bits and bobs.

There isn't one good panel on my car, it's very annoying! Well I guess apart from the ones I have just painted... Tyre wise, I really recommend the Kuhmo Solus tyres for our cars, I have some and they transformed the ride. Unfortunately there isn't much choice for the tyre size we use Front end is painted Before: After: So much cleaner looking! Also painted the front tow hook black (mine was rusty) and painted the rear drums black whilst I was at it. Doing this has now made me realise how bad my front bumper is... yet more painting ahoy! Pretty much got to do every panel on this poor old thing

Trouble is now every piece you paint will make something else look bad. If your not carefull you will respray the whole car . looking good though keep it up.

Been a while since i updated this, although not a great deal has happened! Fresh injector seals as the old ones had become a touch hard Had some alternative owners club decals made Replaced the rusted up n/s headlight Replaced the floppy n/s sunvisor Replaced the ash tray to a brown one Replaced the door latch surrounds Cleaned up the o/s electric window reg and motor ready to convert my car back to full electric windows (for some reason a manual window has been fitted only on the drivers side) I need to order some thread and one of those hook needle things to refurb this brown 3 spoke wheel to replace the black 4 spoke I have. Fingers crossed it cleans up as nicely as others have!

Nothing exciting to update with but some progress! Had a spare coil that was looking sorry for itself, my classroom has a buffing wheel... The fuel pump and tank hose weren't being held on too securely... All good down there now with refurbished bracket, fresh bobbins and fresh clamps Fresh belts Cleaned up a decent spare distributor Also got myself an ultrasonic cleaner, so I used it to clean up the casing of a spare WUR A dirty CSV Became a clean CSV A decent rear seat kindly donated to me Fresh Hatch seal fitted so that i'm less likely to die of fumes Alternator cowling that I cleaned down and sprayed but unfortunately not fitted as I needed a bit more room under the car Injectors ultrasonically cleaned, plenty of crud went missing. Slowly getting there now, refurbishing everything as I go

Loving all this small detail work, turning into a great all round motor.
I have a genuine question, not in any way meant to sound contrary, but why is the 1.8t a logical step? other than the tenuous vw link The adaption work sounds like you could fit any engine?

Cheers mate, it is getting there now mechanically! Still a few issues to iron out but it is becoming a pretty good example underneath.
1.8T has enough power as stock to make it fun but with the tuning potential there if I want to go further, they're cheap, there's loads of aftermarket stuff and support for them and its a similar sized and weighted unit so I shouldn't lose the sprightly handling of the car. I did think about a Saab 2.3T as an option, but that would mean I would need to upgrade most of the drivetrain/brakes at the same time as it would be such a power increase. If you have a suitable suggestion then by all means give me ideas!

Car had a wash, still got a hot start problem so i'll get out my fuel pressure testing stuff next weekend and get diagnosing. I have a feeling it is either the fuel pump non return valve or the fuel accumulator

Coming along mate. As for the conversion the clutch is the weak point I have heard so a drivetrain conversion may be on the cards anyway. I think steve had to do it on his not just for the gearbox and larger torque tube but he also converted to hydraulic clutch to go with it.

Now I'm back in Suffolk I have the pleasure of my workshop to play in (I really miss this place!) First jobs were to fit my new accumulator, the old one had started leaking as well as not holding pressure anyway Old v new Fitted Then my fuel pump decided it had enough and failed...luckily I had bought a new one ready! Old v new Fitted with a fresh hose fitted too as the old one was close to falling apart Car feels like it's pulling better now, not sure if it's a placebo effect or not though! Annoyingly this hasn't cured my hot start issue. I fitted a s/h WUR recently and it's been worse since that. I have another s/h WUR to try in the hope that this cures the issue. If not I am stumped...... I also fitted a different wiper stalk as mines a bit haggard. For some reason the headlight washers came on and drained the washer tank, so I fitted my old stalk and still had the issue! Just d/c the motor for now, I'll investigate tomorrow. Next jobs are to fit the new manifold gaskets, and my Dansk  New ramp has made light work of getting under the car, shame they are made so damn badly....

Whats the problem with the ramps? They look like a good bit of kit in the pic.

They are really poor quality chap. The welds are all over the place and verging on chicken poo in places, a few parts are wonkily welded on, they have painted over rust and the paint job on the pump is laughable. They work well though, and have made getting under the car a ton easier

Not much progress but a little has happened! Slower progress than usual Different throttle body, my old one had play in the nylon bushes causing my car to flutter at idle I made an upgraded loom for the headlights Fitted and engine bay cleaned a bit Hagard old Sunroof inner seal replaced! Outer done too Inner rubber boot that seals road noise/fumes replaced! I had a wobbly shifter. Oddly, the shifter pin was not worn (it looked to be a recent replacement) however the shifting rod was worn and this was causing the play. I bought some brass bushes in case this was the issue and bored out the rod to accept the new bushes (I used 2 trimmed down as the ones I had weren't wide enough). I also fitted a nearly new shifter that I had going spare just to be sure everything was as good as possible. This mod has made the shifter feel a ton smoother and there is no more noticeable play coming from there! I just need to investigate the linkage at the gearbox end to see if I can reduce the play there now although it is fairly minimal. Repaired the passenger door strap as the last had broken I've done a ton of other jobs but it's mainly been niggly rerpaira and cleaning parts to give it a lease of life. You can see the Dansk box at the back, makes a great growl!
