I bought my car with no tax, sorted insurance and drove it home. Taxed the very next day (bought at night so PO was closed)
I've got a new car now, bought on the last day of its tax disc (Sunday) got new tax the next day but didn't drive it until new tax was in! So I'm selling the old one, as its not worth much I want to cash in the tax (6 months left). I've listed it on ebay as NO TAX.
Its on the road at the moment and nowhere offroad to keep it so its not SORNED so I've kept the tax disc in for now. When the new buyer collects the car I'll retrieve the tax disc and hand over the keys. I'll post it off to cash it in the following day (I'm guessing it'll be collected in the evening or on Sunday as I'll be at work other times).
The new owner has to sort out the tax for driving it away and I dare say they'll do what I did and tax it the next day. I know its not strictly legal to do this - does it invalidate MOT and insurance?
My question is firstly can I do this? ie will it cause problems for the new owner when trying to tax the car? Won't it flash up on the database as already being taxed (obv it'll take a few days for them to process my refund)?
I read somewhere online that 'they' (I'm guessing the DVLA) are cracking down on ppl selling cars with no tax (or no tax and MOT).
Secondly is this a bad idea? Should I just leave the tax and hope I get a decent price? I thought about editing the listing offering to sell the tax to the winner at cost (when they collect it).
