Just a quickie. i'm upto scratch with citroens hydrodrastic carpet ride qualities, but what about BL's finest? My mom has a Rover 100 (mini Metro) and its Great but feels like a bumpy little car (in a nippy mini kind of way)... So what are allegros, maxi's etc like do they have a nice ride, or is it not such a good system? curious mainly. and BL stuff is on the list for the future! cheerz

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

As I've owned both hydraulic Citroens and currently have to Hydragas cars, there isn't that much comparison really. The Metro and Allegro ride well but not Citroen-well. Would like to try and bigger car like an 1800 or Princess though. That'd be a fairer test.

Not been in a Princess in years. When I did they rode like nothing else. Really amazing. The VDP 1300 I drove was a real revalation as well. Amazing ride for such a small old car.
I rode in a mates Allaggro recently and it wasn;t quite as nice feeling. Maybe the passage of time has raised in my mind how good I thought those older BL cars were. Also I was in back and the rear seat is so lacking in padding that I sank right down so I felt I might be sitting on the metal floor...
I drove a Citroen XM and while I'm sure it was smooth I spoent the whole time stresseed up thinking it was about to go pop as it was hissing and clicking and all sorts. Apparently thats "normal". Hmmm...
Rode in a BX and was not impressed at all. Mind you it had bucket type seats which were narrower than my arze is so I wasn't comfortable. And it was a hot day and the owner had the heating on so I was really not "feeling in my comfort zone" there.

ive had both, citroens are quite something ride wise, my bx tzd was brilliant, comfy but yet still handled well. my maxi was an odd thing, like a big wobbly jelly, didnt handle at all but it was still brill in an odd way.
i really want a xantia activa though, there supposed to be an incredible weapon

Ive never driven a citroen, but ive driven metros, mgfs, a hydrolastic 1275Gt mini clubman, allegros, maxis, maxis, maxis, 1300s, 1800s, princesses, maxis, and a 3litre. Basicly the bigger they are the more barge like they are,. Best thing about the maxi was road humps were non existant, bumpy frelds could be crossed at speed in comfort and at 95 they............. float? They don't handle too badly but thats what makes them more fun, the work can be done to make them stiffer and handle better but in my eyes that takes away the best part of it, that 'magic carpet ride'! lol (see-float?)
With regards to 'is it a good system', it works well but its only a matter of time before a unit goes pop and getting replacements is hard too say the least.

Biggest Citroen I've ever been in was a BX, apart from the novelty of being able to play silly burgers with the ride height it seemed no more than reasonably comfortable.
Princess I used to have however......'float' was a pretty accurate description, shame it never had the 5-speed box that would have made it a real mile-eater....was outstandingly comfortable though.

i used to have an Xm estate with the full active ride. I know what you mean about the pops and hisses but as an owner you fade them out after a while.
The ride was absolutely superb and loaded or unloaded made no difference at all. Best car ev-ar.
Brakes were also a hoot. "Would sir like full braking NOW!!" Not quite the old CX on/off but not far off.
