Hi folks I'm looking at a car tomorrow but my insurance says it needs an engineers report? It has had a vic and was written off in 2010 and has been on the road since so has had 3 mots since but they say I need an engineers report. Anyone had one done in the manchester or bolton area. How much should I be paying for it and is it a specialist job or is it something that can be done at a garage. If its going to cost me a fortune then its not worth getting the car. Any advice would be usefull as I don't have any idea with this. Thanks

Still got a few months left on the policy and they are offering next to nothing on a refund. Plus my insurance is pretty expensive due to where I live.

I only phoned them for a quote on changing the car and asked them about it while I was there and there,s no change on the price but they need an engineers report. Theres no point in being insured if anything happens and they do some digging they wont cover me. Honestly I don't think its worth the worry.

Only time i've ever been asked for one was the petrol -> diesel in the range rover, local garage just wrote out on headed paper they had inspected it and it was done in a safe manner. Satisified the insurance and cost a few drinks.
