Got the summernasts gallery, theres hundreds of examples in there. It seems to be the hip thing to do here, sadly oversized cheape chrome wheel just don't interest me, especially on retros. Some wheels like above can look alright though.

It depends on the base and the execution really...but if you HAD to label it (and there's nothing to say that you do) then it might be Pro-Touring (usually Camaros/Muscle), Aus-look (I just made up that term! - bright colours and big polished/chrome wheels on a Australian market or Japanese car) or 90's SM look (again, I made it up, but Street Machine mag [UK] in the 90s was a fan of the modern rims/old car look). Quite a lot of the US Japanese drag enthusiasts do it, but I haven't invented a name yet! Pro Touring Aus-look

pro touring is definatly were I get alot of ideas from for my cars I like the big rim (but not to big) look but it is very easy to got over the top with the look just choosing slightly wrong wheel can ruin the look the rim needs to go with the shape of the car also with with bigger rims you need bigger brakes or it just looks wrong ;D . it has alot to do with handling as well the bigger low profile tires normaly grip very well and it does sharpen up an old cars feel on the road however for going in a straight line the low profile tires can sometimes lack grip and you can't drop the tire pressures like you can with the fatter taller tires but its realy horses for courses and what it gains in cornering grip far outways what it looses in straight line grip

theres plenty of styles that fit that description, and a lot of it depends on thebase car, the look and the vibe.
You could be talking anything from donks to dubs to lowriders to pro touring to what Custom Rodder magazine describe as "New Millenium Custom" or just plain old "pimped".

I didnt even think that it was a style - the reason i have stuck dolly on (new) rims is for the cheapness/availability of the tyres. on the revos i had on there, the ultra wide 13s tyres for 4 were worth more than the car!

I didn't think it had a label either. Everyone does it over here, take 1x car, add rims. It's that simple.

I think that new wheels on old car can end in tears....... there was a guy in Torquay who has a clean mk3 Capri (sparyed in metallic blue - wrong IMO anyway) he stuck 17" halfords rims on it I was almost sick everytime I saw it However it can work, sorry folk that was a curse word story!

i think if the rim is touring car-ish inspired it looks good, or if say you have small old car & put massive modern rims it looks stupid
i have some 5 spoke dymag alloys in 7.5x17dia (look the same-ish as compamotive MO's) for my triumph 2500s & if its a mk1 or mk2 triumph 2000/2500 they suit the car, not to big & stop a little body roll, helps in the corners & tyre choice is really good, the rolling radious is slightly bigger than standard which helps fuel slightly, not alot though, whte ims & white car with chrome i think looks good
