Id imagine alot of you on here have trade policies for your fleets or for customer cars or both. What companies are you using and how flexible are they?
I need to be able to drive anything (within a reasonable price bracket) so i can drive customer cars and make the insuring of my various vehicles a bit less of a headache.
would appreciate any help greatly.
Thanks Oli

most trade polices only cover you if you are driving so if you park car on the road you can still get a ticket

Tradewise gave me traders which was a massive help. But don't go crashing, coz 15months down the line. I'm still waiting for them to return my f"*# no claims discount.

www.tradex.comCheap trade policies are just the same as cheap tools or cheap car spares. OK until you really need them.

From experience, avoid Tradex like the plague. Difficult to deal with, and a total nightmare if you do ever need to claim.
I`ve been with a few over the years. I currently use Harrington Bates as a broker, but have used the likes of Crowthorne before too. The insurance company now is a Royal Sun alliance (RSA) policy, and I`ve been with MMA a lot in the past. I can`t say I`ve had issues with either company......both have been very flexible with regards to classic cars and J Import/high performance items.
The best bet is to spend a couple of days phoning around brokers, play them off against each other and make sure you get the finer details of the policies before agreeing

Look carefully at the exclusions. I had an RSA policy through Motor Trade Solutions which was a contuation of a poilicy I'd had for 16 years. All was fine until a couple of years ago when they the SD&P part was changed and no longer covered anything over 23 years old, anything modified or anything that was an import, effectively rendering it useless. You were still covered on those for trade purposes but I deemed it to be too risky and ditched it.

I'm with Tradewise and to put a car onto the MID database it is a simple case of logging on and typing in the reg number. the downside as already said is that the car is only covered for trade value and because mine is a classic car traders policy they won't cover me for some imported cars which doesn't bother me as I have no interest in buying a Scooby or mitsi but I have my own moderns on the policy.

DVLA ANPR's only show tax status not insurance and the police do not clamp cars, only the DVLA clamp untaxed cars and police will not tow a car for no insurance unless it is being driven on the road because it can take 48 hours for a car to show on the MIB database so they have to talk to the driver to establish the insurance status and need to issue a ticket to the driver. I know this is how it works because it is what I do for a living.

i have a trade policy, and its hella money.
i pay just over 3k a year for all my welding and bodywork, cover for imports and modified cars etc. the price basically doubled as soon as modified cars came into it and went up even more when i mentioned imports, but 90% of my work is on modded and import hondas so i am stuck. only good note is i can have any car up to a 10k book value and any insurance group BAR the supercar ones . i also kept my limit low on customers car limited to 30k max (because i work on old things) . only sky insurance would quote me, no other broker wanted to know (i teid about 10 on the web and by phone)
TBH its more piece of mind for the cars i have at my workshop and accidental or total loss just in case. i would say every case would be different and vary in price based on your needs from an insurance policy. so have a word around but MAKE SURE you read the small print and make sure you know what that price quoted covers for. cheaper is not better when it comes to a claim
