My father-in-law has decided that the 1968/9 Mini Cooper he's had dry-stored for the last 15 years or so is going to be sold.
It's a genuine 998 Cooper, in Fjord blue with the inevitable OEW roof, and aside from a set of reverse-rims and (I think) a woodrim wheel it's utterly standard and unmolested.
It's rusty in all the usual places, but saveable. Bearing in mind that there is some joker on Ebay asking £250 for a non-Cooper 'restoration project' which actually consists of a front subframe with an 850 engine/gearbox, a wheel, a bonnet and a V5 (yes really....).....what should he ask for it??
Think I'm gonna have to break the camera out. ;D

£1500? Money for genuine 'Coopers' hasn't inflated with the rest of the Mini 'scene' IMO... they have remained pretty static for at least 10 years, whereas base-spec horrid projects are now fetching £500 when previously you couldn't give them away (as I know from experience!)

Here 'tis....I've removed the reg.no for obvious reasons.... Date of Liability 01 05 1991 Date of First Registration 14 04 1969 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 998CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval null The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry. It's actually better than I remembered!! Island Blue, not Fjord.... Needs boot floor corners and battery tray....he's still got all the boot board, badges, grill etc, he took them all off for safekeeping. I was wrong about the woodrim wheel...... Needs sills, heelboard...floors and seat crossmember aren't too bad. Had new rear subframe, new rear displacers (it's Hydrolastic) and pipes, A-panels in 1990, a year before it was taken off the road. It's been dry-stored ever since, he's going to get it running this week...apparently it does still drive. He bought it back in the mid-80's for SWMBO's elder sister to have when she'd passed her test....when that didn't happen he kept it for himself, then when he took it off the road he said he'd restore it when he retired. Now he has, he's so busy shooting and sailing he just hasn't got time. I'm almost tempted myself now, looking at it!!

Hydrolastic Minis rock! So much more comfortable. Drove a mk1 Cooper towards the end of last year - that was immaculate and sold for around £4500.

If only I had the time....or the energy....or my welding didn't look like pigeon curse word....or even if I actually LIKED Minis (actually I do, but they are a bit like children- OK for a while, but much better when you can give them back to their owners when they become annoying). Once he gets it up and running I'll stick it in the For Sales....cheers guys :-)

I d say send it to Ireland where it should fetch 3K as it is
yes I did say 3k
- when you think a decent mk1 capri fetches 8k - 10K over there - 3k is small change for a genuine cooper

Needing a heelboard is gonna hurt your price!
I'd say somewhere around £1500 is fair - it would make a lovely Mini after some time and money was spent on it!

Not when you can import a Fully restored one for about €6000. Only unrestored original Irish Minis make good money here.
