I've been offered my friends 2001 Auto Civic. Its a really clean car, always serviced at main dealer until last year. Sounds great. I'd rather not have an automatic but I need a reliable car with a known service history more (which this has). He's only selling to get a bigger car (kids).
I've been looking online and there seems to be a lot of ppl who had problems with the Auto transmission which is a costly repair (rebuild or replace). The problem seems to be particularly with this year (and some 2002).
For example:
www.autos.com/car-buying/7-honda-civic-problems-every-buyer-needs-to-be-aware-of
Loads more links though.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Should I steer well clear?
Those posting online seem to be almost all American. Is it possible the Auto box in the US model is different or is this a problem in UK Autos too?
Car had 55k on it so should be good for a fair while yet (transmission permitting). My intention will be to keep the car for 3 years or so (doing about 10k a year).
Thanks in advance
