EQUIPMENT
Polyurethane bumpers, curved zone toughened glass, seat belts, halogen headlamps, twin reversing lamps, interior lamp, boot lamp, door mounted chrome mirror, tonneau cover, cockpit cover, twin horns, trip and mileage recorder, switchable dash illumination, electric tachometer, water temperature gauge, fresh air heater. Dealer fit accessories; fire extinguisher. Retro fit accessories; Wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel.
EXTERIOR
This delightful MG sportster is finished in vibrant Vermilion, (code BLVC118), and has a wonderful glossy shine. The often criticized polyurethane bumpers designed to absorb bumps up to 5mph are in excellent condition and all trim articles are intact and perfect. The black integral vinyl coated fabric hood is original fitment and bar one missing rear popper remains in superb undamaged condition. The quality tonneau cover and full cockpit cover still remain with the car and are in excellent order. The vehicle retains all its original panels and has never been welded but some minor surface markings commensurate with a 36 year old example are evident. This is a remarkable bright survivor and perfect for immediate shows and fun outings.
INTERIOR
Wonderful and correct in every manor. The knit-backed expanded vinyl seats evoke real nostalgia and are presented in excellent order. The adjustable seats with rake adjusting squabs and head restraints offer remarkable comfort in a small cockpit. No wear is evident having been cherished from new and all the controls, gauges and switches set in the perfect crackle finish fascia function. Part of the rubber seal around the driver’s door is split. A dealer fit fire extinguisher remains in the passenger foot well and an expensive wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel has been fitted, (the original item remains with the car). An MG interior worthy of the low miles travelled.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This four cylinder o.h.v with twin SU type HS4 carburettors produces 65bhp and offers ample performance for daily use. The rugged, well proven engine is a simple unit with brilliant access and fantastic parts availability, every classic car owners dream! This example performs faultlessly. The four-speed all synchromesh gearbox gives snappy gear changes and sporty performance coupled with real fuel economy.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Rostyle wheels are in excellent condition although the black centres have been painted. Quality fitted Firestone F-590 145/80 R13 tyres have been fitted to all five wheels with masses of tread remaining. The hydraulic brakes employing 8.25 inch discs at the front and 7 inch drums at the rear offer safe stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
With only three former keepers from new, two of which being Husband and Wife, this vehicle retains all relevant documentation for the avid collector. Mrs Moreen Freed took delivery from John Cooper Garages Ltd in Worthing on the 10th June 1978 and cherished the car keeping it regularly maintained as witnessed by the fully stamped Passport to Service Booklet. On passing away her Husband took ownership in 2000 using the vehicle sparingly but keeping it serviced with an annual MOT. Purchased from KGF Classic Cars in July 2013, the previous keeper having enjoyed ownership for almost two years has since returned to trade up to our MGB Roadster! KGF Classic Cars are pleased to offer this excellent example to the market once again.
The original Owners handbook, Passport to Service and a MG Midget brochure from the period are included in the sale. All documents are contained within the black John Cooper Garages A5 wallet and a full set of keys on the same Dealer leather MG key fobs remain.
