Yippee! The springs arrived from Germany on Monday, so now I can drop my passat I've got to do it tomorrow, as I'm busy thursday, and need to do a 400 mile round trip in it this weekend. Which includes giving Junglist a ride back home to pick up his goof - I don't think he'll be happy if I cop out ;D So hopefully everything goes to plan! I've got to fit: - Shortened, uprated shocks - 40mm drop H&R springs - New wheel bearings for the front (figured I might as well do it while the bearing/strut housing is off and in bits! - New front wishbone bushes Hopefully it'll all go to plan! I'll be posting pictures up tomorrow ;D Once it's dropped I need to offer up the mattigs and see how much I need to flare out the arches (bottle jack at the ready )

So, from thevery start it all turned to curse word.... it took me about 4 hours to get one front strut off. Nothing went easy. Mainly because the spring was snapped, and therefore putting massive pressure on the strut against the strut tower. I had to drill out the strut top mount just to get it off Anyway, got both front struts and wishbones off by about 3pm, and couldnt get the wheel bearings or wishbone bushes out... gonna sort them at the garage tomorrow with the press. I then thought I'd get the back done quickly before it got dark. Got one side off, put the new damper together, bolted it up and went to bolt the wheel on...it fouls against the spring The spring cup sits way to far down the strut so the spring is about 4 inches lower than on the stock one I'm clueless as to what to do now... Has anyone else lowered a mk2 passat with GT cupline shocks? I can't for the life of me work out how else the bottom spring plate could fit to it to make it any different Anyone got any idea?

On second thought, I might just get some stock shocks for the rear... I can't be arsed with this hassle and they're only £11.500 plus VAT (minus trade... )

bad luck, dude I wonder if the spring cup is lower to allow for more drop? or is it what the germans call shortened shocks? bit of a bummer whatever. perfect excuse for much larger offset wheels tho ;D hope tomorrow bring you better luck

Sorry to hear your bad luck. I think I'd be double checking part numbers ect. to make sure the parts are correct.

Man... What a lot of hard work! I am aching ALL over! Took the front strut/bearing hosing to get the bearings pressed in/out today, and decided to not bother changing the wishbone bushes, as new wishbones (with bushes in) are only 27 quid anyway...but they will have to wait till next week. Got back to Leeds at about 4:30 and cracked straight on with getting it done, as it needed to be off Gareth's drive by 9pm at the latest, and it gets dark at about 6:30 Anyway, I managed to get it all done, bar one rear corner - I just ended up using the stock shock. It seems the shock I was sent is designed to be used with a coil over style srpiong, which is obvisouly a lot narrower Not to worry...Here's some pics from the whole thing: Then: Now :

Great stuff....all worked out in the end, smell of victory dude. :-) Almost! I had to drive the car home (a couple miles) and there's an incredibly loud squealing comeing from the o/s fron brake... I'm hoping it's just the backing plate making slight contact with the disc (after i bent the curse word out of it by not taking it off!) Tomorrow will tell. First thing to do is get the other rear shock done...then drive it 200 miles
