hi all,
looking for alternative to w126 springs if anyone can help. looked coil overs and they are just too much and most springs will give me 45mm drop, but i'm looking for lower by chopping, i know it's not a good way to do it but skint at the moment.
any help would be much appreciated.
cheers marc.

Just chop them then I did mine on my W124 and it's absolutely fine. Still comfy, slightly stiffer and handles much better whilst being about 50-60mm lower

been told i can't cut the springs because the top and bottom coils are flat so it can't be done. don't fancy chopping and welding back together either.

That's rubbish! AFAIK they're pretty much the same style/design across the W123/124/126/201 (could be wrong tho) and the spring 'cup' is actually shaped to accept the slight drop in coil and they have square cut ends on the springs. Well, at least mine did and they were 2 year old genuine MB springs. However, Having not yet enjoyed the pleasure of a W126, I stand to be corrected by anyone who knows better

i thought they were the same throughout the models, but there seems to be agreement that you can't chop them. other forums say that 124's are ok but not 126.

Do it! The spring will locate just fine. You wont find coilovers for w126 as the spring is mounted separate to the shock.
