Fetched my stick welder back from Mickey next door who has had it at least three months. I think he forgets. Cut, measured, cut some more and prepped a bunch of bits, then welded it all together up to a point. I decided to make my battery top clamp horizontal, rather than vertical. Also to run threaded bar with nuts both ends, and hopefully if I can get a metal sheath, I will cover the threaded bar over. On the way to work today I popped into a specialist nuts, screws etc shop and bought four domed head bolts to,fit the battery tray onto the chassis with, under the cab. Loads of photos can probably say it all. I wanted to try retain my top terminal battery, rather than buy the sexy side terminal model Ian had bought. Front view Rear view Diagonal side view. Without battery, which is a large size 70a/h model. Finished off by packing away everything and then painting the first coat of Hammerite. Next coat 06.00

Nice work Grizz. P. Thanks Paul. Only one problem. In redesigning Ian's design to a horizontal hold, I forgot about the upward motion induced by potholes. So I will be altering the angle of the threaded bar tonight to diagonal so it can hold down and inward to the chassis.

that was to be my comment on seeing the pics, diagonal will work, or a strap or similar down the side to stop the clamp lifting?

My Mig welder so trigger has been on self destruct mode recently, which had me looking at alternatives, including upgrading to Euro Torch. Seems it can be done with my Clark machine, but before I got to that, Scottie from Scotland offered me an almost new torch from his last machine that self destructed for postage to try out on my machine. Thanks mate, the pouring rain here has stopped me fitting it here at this moment. Tonight Martin popped over for dinner so we could do some of our road trip planning, including me purchasing the extra baggage at £55.00 for an extra 23kg bag. He also brought me some large wing nuts for the battery tray, and some metal sleeve tubes to go over the threaded bar. And this......

that picture is very very cool, i hope its finding a loving home in a frame and pride of place on a wall in the house somewhere It is indeed. I have another one, that has a bunch of 60-66 GMC and Chevy trucks. Today Nicola went to meet up with an old friend who has retired in Thailand as a language teacher. As always they have lunch, followed by a charity shop walk about. Today Nicola bought an evening dress for £2.50 by Maria Grachvogel of London (go Google that brand) where dresses like this usually come in at over £1000.00 She also brought me a £1.00 treat that she found in one of the shops. I saw one once and commented about it. Am I pleased? Absolutely.

Today this was happening. Any guess at what was being created? Well, there you go......... Many flanges to build the custom exhaust with the QTP cutouts, stainless and mild steel for various connections to headers and out back. Made by a friend who wears tHe cloak of invisibility that anonymity offers. Thanks mate !! Mostly 3" outlet, but 2.5" for the mild steel that the silencers and tail pipes are going to be. Still going to be an anti-social thug this truck when done. Pretty darned impressed and happy.

Got home from work tonight and got to look these flanges over properly. Technology does deliver. Neat Neat Neat. I also cut and got the exit tips that will go after the valves to protect them from road debris and rain sorted. Then I went down to the local pub to meet up with Colin, Martin's welder mate to discuss what needs doing. All agreed and will be done in three weeks when Colin is back in the country. Laid out. 2.5" flanges lead to 2.5" pipes and Flowmasters.

As this is from the tip, recycling tip that is, but it did cost me six pairs of rubberised gloves and a fiver for the wheelbarrow load of stuff excluding the Jerry can, which was going to be turned into a small booze cabinet. But I tossed it back. I went to my friendly local tip this morning to see if I could buy a Cole of 2 ton pallet trucks to sell on at a bit of a profit....... Ooooooopsss, the guy who makes the decisions was not there. So I managed to spend two hours chatting to the guys in the yard and collect some bits I thought were worth having. In fact a wheelbarrow load of wibblepoo. In the end, I left the Jerry can that was going to be a mini bar, behind. Came home and sorted it all out The wood clamps will be handy when I make up the bed wood strips, joining two, strips at a time. The electrical, fuse boxes are part of a future project that Nicola will hopefully like. The little bottle jack up front will be incorporated into a small bearing press I want to build from bits I have around. After cleaning, one German made 5 liters pump up pressure sprayer that will work for applying Gunk Degreaser under the cab and chassis as well as Roundup weed killer to the driveway. Something a bit retro.... Gas heater. May well be for sale. In my job lot of trash there was a 750 watt, 3000rpm bench grinder, Made in Holland. It is to be an ally and stainless steel polisher....... I am going to look for 15 mm inner diameter spindles for it to get the total width down In the pile of bits you may have noticed two, chainsaw motors too......l They have little 35cc Pistons. Which are time consuming to remove, but possibly worth the time. Perfect for a key ring for the garage keys, in case they go missing. Lastly, Nicola went to see her dad this afternoon, he lives only 3 miles from us, so we pop in regularly, and he often pops in for a cuppa tea and to release Ruby, his retired Greyhound who loves to stretch her legs in the back yard. Today he had bought me a very cool high end metal poster for my garage. I love it. So that is the lot for today. Tomorrow it is Bootfair, but I suspect it will be rained out. So time to get up close and personal with the truck, to use the new pressure sprayer.

Those pistons are really rather excellent keyrings! Good foraging man :-) CFD Well, both Bootfairs were a bust, they were on, but all I managed to get was one small vintage Butlins holiday camp peanut plate for Nicola @£1.50 which is more than double what I would normally pay, but she grew up with the Butlins holiday camps and will be going there next weekend with a group of her school mates. Carburettors from the chainsaws added in pic. Plate is smaller than a Victorian saucer. I am often appalled at what gets tossed, so much new stuff. Yesterday there was a load of heavy duty Dexian shelving and framework, all obviously new...... Still, I will continue to exploit other people's stupidity and glut, to feed my own habits. Every time I get something free, and can pass it on, or use it myself, it releases money to go into my mortgage. Easy. I did buy some 16mm spindles for the bench polisher on EBay last night. So hopefully those will be here this week too.

Bootfair sucked big time today. So came home and completed a load of small tasks that should have been done a long time ago. Including the redesign and repair of the relocated battery carrier. Also sleeved the threaded bar. Happy with the result. Earlier today I made a two faced robot from the bits of left over chainsaw as well. His name is Bazateer or Reetazab depending on which one you speak to. I also had mate Gene pop over for a few hours for coffee and a chat, and to collect the small hobby lathe I Freecycled on a truck forum. Gene is a popper traditional hand written Sign Writer. And I for one love his work.

Rain and more rain. Perfect for a public holiday Monday when there are so many shows etc planned. I was going to find some procrastination project to do, then realised the inner fenders will never clean themselves. So armed with about 3 liters of petrol a couple of soft and hard brushes and a putty knife, I started on the greaser, dirtiest one of the two. Sat outside in the rain, I got thoroughly soaked, but the first one followed by the second one which was not as oily, got done, then I washed them both with the hard brush and about 3/4 bottle of Cif/Hany Andy ammonia based kitchen cleaner to get the oily grease off, washed and rinsed with buckets of water from my perpetually refilling water butt, I was eventually happy. Both sides are now ready for paint prep, primer coat followed by Satin Black Two Pack paint. Yesterday I started to reassemble to cleaned, painted and MX5/Miata Motorwd heater unit, only to realise all the screws, 32 of them, were dirty and not very good looking, so steel brush, poked through some cereal box cardboard and both the heads and threads satin blacked as well. So today after the inner fenders I finished reassembly of this unit and packed it away. The lid is away with Ian Brown for some special under hood treatment. The red you can see is a high density foam gasket I made to seal the fan to the metal case.

This whole entry had me laughing out loud in joy. Ian wrote up all below, so I just copied and pasted it in the thread. A while ago I agreed to put some stripes on the "blower box" lid for Rian's truck. Now before you read on I have to point out that I'm no expert pin-striper, but it is something I enjoy doing but I'm along way off the standard of the pros we all marvel at. I collected the lid when we were all at the Supernats early August. Rian had blasted and painted it for me, unfortunately the primer Rian had used had reacted a little so rather than take any chances I stripped it back to bare metal, then etch-primed it followed by a good old coat of 2K black. I asked Rian if he had anything in mind design wise and he said could I do a growling grizzly bear? I made a stencil and this was also put on in 2K as you can flat it right out and polish it smooth Next I marked out the outside border for the design, with it being under the hood I wanted a heavy (ish) line so it would be visible from a distance? I used an Excalibur 00 and 1 shot (what else?). I always pallet up on an old catalogue as the paper is ideal for loading your brush and you can just tear off the page for the next clean sheet. (It also has the added advantage of becoming quite interesting when you get the underwear section ). White first Then Red. It's not perfect, none of my stuff ever is, but as Rian said it's better than rattle can black and a couple of stickers. A massive than you to Ian. I am totally chuffed with the outcome as it suits my truck and how I see it. I feel privileged to know Ian, and that he was prepared to spend his time doing this cover for me.

I do love the roads in the UK........ Did 162 miles in 6 hrs yesterday. Huge delays everywhere. However, sometimes weird stuff happens for good reasons. Had I been to see the customers I had planned at the time I had planned and not got delayed, I would have been in Romford, an hour from home by 3pm. However, I found myself waiting for a customer at 3.30pm about 2 hrs from home. When I came out from seeing the customer at 4pm, there was a message on my mobile to say my front end rebuild kit for the truck had arrived in Watford from New York where it got shipped from. I checked with Steve Lang to see where he was, and by a stroke of luck he was about 6 miles up the road on my way out to the M25 motorway and seeing as the motorways would be swamped with afternoon traffic and my local motorway the M2 was in a bad way, I decided. To go pick up the parts. Langey's Hotrod Shop as he is known, will import parts on your behalf at direct - $ for £ - exchange rate. This allows him some profit, covers the import duties and VAT etc and gets done pretty pronto. The alternative is EBay or local shops at pretty much the same price. Meeting Steve to collect my parts, we ended up talking cars, engines and life in general for nearly an hour....time flies like that. He was working on his Willys Gasser Pickup, fine tuning the door figment. This was what had cost me £260.00 landed, in my hands for the truck. Photo stolen off the sellers Ebay description. I was absolutely shattered last night and did not even unpack, inspect or gloataboutthekit, or the latest painful hiding I had bought myself. Next job will be attempting to undo all the existing parts without destroying my knuckles or and threads, and fitting the we parts successfully. I feel much pain coming my way, but it's the only way to do this truck so that I can enjoyit in the long term.

Got home tonight and found this had arrived in the post. A plate from George in Manilla. Take a look at his great thread : Letter from Manilla it makes for great reading. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/163103/letter-manila-pnr-deadGreat addition to my mad collection of plates. Thanks George, this is very cool. In other news, another surprise parcel arrived from Ian Brown today. I already reported on this cover, but have to say, in hand, it is even more impressive. I am seriously pleased and impressed with it. It is so difficult to capture the texture and look of this piece in a photo. Of course I had to go trial fit it as well. Very pleased, very very pleased.
