Whoa dude! Nice to catch up at Wheels Day and meet Mrs. Boss too. I see the lovely little MX-5 is still around. You're an industrious guy. What's going to happen to the little Honda? I've been thinking about turning one of those into a cafe racer. What you up to with that? Honda engine and ancillaries are in a box, awaiting some attention in 12-18 months.

The night before last when the newly powder coated red rims came home, Nicola renamed them "The Girls" and asked if I wanted to take them to bed, based on how pleased I was with them. Well, yesterday another small touch landed in the post from Spain, just love the internet. Metal centre cap badges for the wheels. Did not want to force the trim rings on before the tyres get fitted, but sure you get the idea. Anyway, today I wrapped up and stashed the wheels in the garage till I get around to fitting the new tyres to them. Today I also made an executive decision that I am selling the chrome smoothies, their caps and tyres on so that I can just keep the Rallyes on the truck. I really do not want to go changing wheels and then having to store the "off" set every so often. The wheels and caps are not perfect, but after cleaning them up, I did wonder about it, and when Nicola came down to check up on me, she said I was going to regret it. 7J wide and 15" diameter. With BF Goodrich tyres. Good tread all the way. I also pulled out my spare set of 15" Radar 5x205 polished ally wheels with 185/65-15 Firestones with hardly any wear out. I have four of these, two on the Teardrop Trailer and two spare, so would be happy to sell them as a pair or a set, if all four goes, it means I can get the spare set of smoothies a pair of adapters and some tyres and fit them to the Teardrop. These sold to Jabbo for his new project. And these are the Smoothies I got for the Teardrop last year, 5 stud, multi fit in 6J and 15" size with brand new caps. Way too many wheels about.

Freecycle vs Council tip..... Well, I cut in and scored these two Peugeot 807 rear seats today before they got binned. I will keep one and pass one on to my mate Martin. Could be worked in between a pair of good bucket seats in the truck. Then the backrest acts as a table and cup holder, or as occasional seat for a third person. Got an email from friend Scot "Jabbo" today enquiring about the set of four polished ally Radar wheels I had on the Teardrop trailer and in storage. This meant I ended up removing them, and he will collect at 21.00 tonight. It also means I now need to find someone who can make me a set of adapters for the Multi fir 5 stud Chrome Smoothies I have. No idea how we are going to get 4 studs into the hub and 5 studs I to the adapter..... But that will be another days problem. Did mock up the Smoothie though. HERE'S A QUESTION FIR THE CLEVER GUYS WHO KNOW ABOUT TYRES FITTED TO RIMS. Scot is giving me back two of the tyres. They are 185/65-15's and the Smoothies are 6J 15's I guess there will be a bit if stretch if fitted. Any opinions? So these are the adapters. Hubs are four stud. And the magic will happen when someone can figure how to add another 5 mounting holes to the centre of the adapter to fit these Multi fit 5 stud rims. And that meant the end of another weekend.

Thanks mate. I also had a suggestion to just redrill the hubs to 5 stud. Made sense to me. So will be investigating that option.

7J wide and 15" diameter. Smoothie caps. With BF Goodrich Whitewall tyres in 225/75-15 size with masses of life left.
The wheels are not perfect, neither are the chrome caps but at 10 yards most people would be happy to fit them.
If you go do your homework and check Northants Tyres for their Wheel Vintiques Smoothies, caps and Whitewall tyres and you are still interested, the Tyre Kicking starts at £480.00 collected in Rochester, Kent.
Please PM me if interested and tell me what you think you should pay.

Tempted by those smoothies, but I don't need the tyres, and engine rebuild say 'no'. So, all I have to say is "I want biltong!"

Or you can make your own.... Use my box. My trucks original wheels sold to Ricky who came in his Chevy van to collect! after his SatNav dropped him about 5 miles from where we live. Love technology at times. Cool custom, with little touches like Ford Sierra (Mondeo) door latches, locks, mk1 Mini fan and controls in the dash. His plans are a complete re-spray, the Chrome smoothies and to use it as a daily and for his business. Money handed over to Nicola to stash under the mattress for when I buy tyres for the Rallyes.

I'll come visit when my truck is sorted... Or when I drop my lass off at Gatwick when she goes away, whichever is sooner!

Had a job interview yesterday, so the past week was focused on getting to know everything and prep for the interview. Back to normal for a bit today before having friends over for a BBQ Used my stick welder as the wind was pumping this afternoon, amazed at just how well it worked at getting the two rims glued together. Then cut a bit of electrical conduit and some rebar, bent like a staple to start forming the hinge. Also cut a bit out of the rim edge. I will be welding the pipe to one side of the stoking door. Allowing the door to swing around the hinge. So I pre-cut the door, leaving the corners uncut, so that I can weld the hinge and supports as well as the latch in place before releasing the door. Back to the Mig welder in the garage, I used off cut bits of steel from the towbar I made for the truck to strengthen and stabilise the platte and support that will be welded to the bottom of the one rim, in order to create a coal basket. This will allow the rims to be rotated, but also dismantled for storage or moving about. Hope to finish this job some time tomorrow as well. Hannah is popping down on Wednesday.

Boot fair bounty for today....... Included 1.5meter of 200mm wide 60 grit paper for 50p got to be useful somewhere. American plates now make £5.00 and more at swapmeets, EBay etc and and even bootfairers do not play stupid anymore. So I was chuffed to get these three for £5.00 today. The Texas one at the bottom is unusual to me, not seen one before, so any identification appreciated, as to its use and allocation. A job lot of long, very long domed headed bolts around 150-250mm ling and a few random bits. Including a nice plastic box £4.00 the lot. Means I have the new bolts to mount the bed back on with the new wood once done. A load of weld through, zinc primer, degreaser, and spray on contact adhesive at 50p per can....... Gotta be worth having. Half for my garage, half for mate Martin's Good condition Suzuki 600cc exhaust, with removable baffle which means it can be modified and also opened up a lot more to anti-social thuggery levels........ Paid £4.00 for it, though I would not sell it for less than three times that. Had a very similar one to that, off a 600cc CCM on my Transit with a straight through pipe from the 1800cc Zetec it had fitted. Gentle Dremmel persuasion on the little Allen head screws and the whole thing dismantles. Next up, go back and finish off the burner I am making for Hannah.

Carrying on with the welding and making it up as I went along this afternoon, I finished the job just after 6pm. A lot longer than planned. Welded the "hinge" into place and cut the door free. Then cleaned up all the edges, properly so Hannah would not slit her wrists while making a fire. Some more scrap coming to the rescue, an old Chinese gong stand that has lived in the garden the last 5 years, donating bits to this build. One of my problems was to make a functional lock for the door, to keep it in place, so the gong stand donated the handle for this, it also donated the door handle, part of the problem with this sort of burner is the heat generated and also fed into the handles, hopefully Hannah will be able to open and close the door without burning her fingers. Eventually welded the buckled base plate to the rim, a lot of filling needed, but happy with that. Also added Hannah's initials on the bottom, no idea why, thing is too heavy to steal anyway. Finished wood burner. Door shut. Door open, and yes, there is sufficient of a tray to retain ashes and coals. Happy overall, made entirely of scrap, and hopefully she will not dump it before winter.

cracking job !
if i may be so bold with some "solid fuel experience" as we run a log stove, you'll probably find it will be white hot raging all the time with that vast array of holes around the "ankles" of your fuel.

OK...... So I lied. I went out and bought a tin of silver VHT paint on the way home tonight. Also welded plates over the bottom holes to keep most of the fire and coals inside the burner. Then wire brushed, and flap wheeled the outside before turning it upside down, painting the undersides, followed by to upper sides. Not everyone will get it finished in paint, but I am happy that for a girls back yard, it will be the right thing. Also got a call from the agency I dealt with the last week with a job offer to a new job. Looking forward to a new challenge.
