ROAD TRIP !!!
This week I won some travel vouchers at work which means I will be going to the USA on a truck and bike oriented road trip with mate Martin in October 2015.
Central to our trip is the weekend of 17th October when we will be in Fayetteville Arkansas for Clem's Old Truck Cruise In.
I spoke to Clem earlier tonight about Martin and I attending his party, and was told that we were now booked into his Vintage Airstream Trailers that have been converted to accommodation units on his property.
Coolest thing is that he lives in a 1950's Sinclair Gas Station.
The next weekend is the BikesBluesandBBQ.org show.
Time flies when you are having fun, and boy, we’re having fun in Northwest Arkansas! It was just a few years ago when Bikes Blues and BBQ didn’t even have a name; it was just a poker run with a BBQ grill, a blues band, and a handful of bikes at a Dickson Street Mexican restaurant (Jose’s, of course). Then it became America’s fastest growing rally, and then the world’s largest charity rally, and now suddenly, it’s been 15 years. What a ride, in every possible way. So, let’s celebrate that milestone the only way we know how – with the biggest party in this part of the country. As always, we’ll have free live music every day and night, the Stokes Air Bike Show, The BBB Car Show, stunt teams, The Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys “Miss BBB Contest” and “Blues Train”, the Arkansas State KCBS State BBQ Championship, Hambone Express Pig Races, the BBB Karaoke Contest, factory demo rides, hundreds of vendors, and so much more. The fact is, you’ll run out of time before you run out of things to do. But the real attraction of the rally is the multitude of great bike roads in the Ozarks region. No matter which direction you travel, you’ll find winding blue highways through spectacular scenery. Rivers, lakes, bluffs, picturesque towns, and we don’t have much in the way of straight roads. Everywhere you go,
This falls in line with Martin's 50th birthday on the 26th.
On the trip we hope to get some spares for the trucks and meet up with friends from Leander, Texas up to Tulsa, Oklahoma and a bunch of places I between.
Early days, but early planning could see us save a few pennies to spend on beer.

You are a lucky man! Nicola, get well soon! Thanks mate. I will be honest, the only way big multi-nationals give away money is if you have given more than the pound of flesh they demand. We get set very stiff sales targets every year and have to exceed them, but also do loads of peripheral things. So in this case less luck, and probably more sweat.. Up early and home late. Create training meetings, deliver training to customers who really do not want to be there etc. Our industry has changed massively over the last 7 years and it seems everyone is battling, but you still need to get out of bed every day and go chase those elusive customers. Eventually it pays off, and if you have an intelligent manager who notices stuff, then you may get recognised in these awards. PS. Not going to make the BBBBQ Show, as it stretches our holidays just a bit too wide.

Being busy with creating the spray booth inside the garage, I have thought of a gazebo on front of it to do most of the dirty dusty filler work.
Yesterday FREECYCLE partially delivered with the ad copied and pasted below........
Scaffolding pipes and fittings to: BUILD A TEMPORARY CARPORT IN FRONT OF GARAGE.
" I have some scaffolding bits which used to be put together to form a yacht cradle - they supported a 30ft yacht ashore during its winter maintenance. Those days are long gone and the scaffolding needs to go.
It comprises about 20 poles, roughly speaking:
6 off 4m long 6 off 2m long 6 off 1-1.5m long few other odds and ends
Plus a boxful of clamps to hold it all together, and drawings / photos if anyone wants to use it as a boat cradle for something 20-30 ft long!
There are a load of wooden blocks used to level it and 6 support pads to rest against the hull of the boat.
Anyone welcome to take away whether as boat cradle, scaffolding components or scrap. "
Last night Martin and I went down to Gillingham in his Mondeo ST Estate with roof bars fitted and my Focus to collect all the pipework and fittings.
Took it all home and unloaded, followed by a cuppa tea made by Nicola and Martin delivering Christmas prezzies. One of which he insisted I open there.
Nice big box, not too heavy......hmmmmm?? What could it be??
Industrial ear plugs....... For our trip to the USA next year? His protection or mine?
Cheeky curse word.

Just a strange word of warning; I have those exact same sheet metal hammers and whilst they work fine for thin sheet metal, don't go and actually hit anything substantial with them! The heads break off and/or split. And as I'm guessing you'll be using them on the Chevy (which is awesome btw!) be careful not to use it on anything thicker than 1mm, like say, the frame.

Hallo Joost Thanks for the warning, the plan is only to use these for light panel work. I think at £20.00 delivered, you cannot expect much, but if used accordingly, they will help me use less filler along the way.

Hey Fred, that is who I was being. Santa Crawls
Martin called Russell to tell him the spacers were done, seems Russell was very pleased and surprised we are prepared to just help him randomly.
Life can be poop for some people, so helping is rather nice.

Perfect decoration for the garage, from Halloween a few years ago, Nicola found it on a sale for 50p On Sunday I eventually got around to a job I have been putting off for some time, for various reasons, most of them just being logistics. I got the "walls" of the "spray booth" months ago from the local Catering company yard before they set fire to them. I decided to build a small recess into which my tall drill press/pillar drill would fit, and then to also offset the rest of the wall by another 300mm or 12 inches to give me maximum working space for when I do the bodywork on the truck, as well as the paint. One of the things I cannot do alone, is to manage 8 and 9 foot long sheets of wood, so I asked Ian who is living with us to come down to the garage to help me a couple of times. frame in place and first sheet in place Another long sheet, problem is they have metal in them that needs to be avoided, so a helping hand is needed. When screwing the connecting strips between the sheets, two hands each side are ideal, so I allowed Ian access to the tools. Carried on till about 10.00pm on Sunday evening. And this was where I ended play on Sunday evening. Door to be created and hung, as well as some more reinforcing between the sections and closing small gaps Door hung, gaps sorted......... Truck back inside the space. Now there is space enough on both sides. On annual leave from Friday, so can start dismantling the truck, first job is removing all the stickers, toolbox etc..... That is all for now. Thanks for looking in guys. PS: Help, advice and visits welcome between 19th and 4th January.

Like I said, I have the same set and I enjoy working with them, especially for the price;) I've done multiple assorted panels on my DS with hem and only broke 1 when I hit number 1 with number 2 from the same set..

You've probably thought of it already, but if that's your spray booth, then all your plates and stuff will get covered in overspray. (unless you're going to put a temporary ceiling in, with extractor fan)

I had a look at your Motorcycle trip posting from the other forum. Awesome. Loved it. I ride and race motocross here in the USA and I almost felt like I got to ride on that trip with you guys. You're an interesting person Mr. Grizz. The temporary spray booth is a great idea, I have done the same thing with plastic sheeting in order to paint a Ford Pickup. My garage has a similar look to yours, I too collect plates and stuff from the UK & Europe in general and you collect stuff from the states. That's really cool. If you're ever looking for anything in particular, feel free to PM me and I'll see if I can help you find it. -Grenade

Will be going out and buying some oft that clear plastic the body shops use to cover the ceiling as well as all the tools on the rear tool bench. The welding table out front will stay open.

I guess my dad would have said something like "The boy fell on his head out of his pram" I likewise, if you need another contact over here, let me know. Happy to help if it is within my means.

Another day, another bit of progress. Last night I cut in with a brush and did a coat of rollered white CROWN paint to get a more reflective, white surface on the walls. Today was my last work day for the year. (helps to save your leave up) So, after doing expenses, clock cards etc, I popped down to the garage, pushed the truck out and did the second coat of white..... GOOD IDEA. I now need to find two more strip lights to fit to the side wall for when I am working on the body. Pleased with the results so far. Truck back in. Once you put it back in place, you realize just how big this red thing is....... Tomorrow I will be helping the decorator in the house, along with starting to remove all the stickers, the little trim clips down the sides and also the big toolbox in the rear. Friday evening Martin and I are going over to Russell the paralyzed Fireman's place to modify all his furniture so that he can actually use it more effectively. Saturday morning will be Honey-Do's and in the afternoon Martin may be over to help me get the scaffolding frame made up in front of the garage. Still need to get hold of a large tarpaulin to go over it all.

Looking good mate, impressed with the speed you're getting this done. Those white walls look to have made quite a difference in brightness.
