Thanks for all the replies guys. Last night I removed the plug, cut about 2 inches off the cable, refitted and replaced the 13A fuse. Plugged it in, the cooling fan came on, no light behind the power switch. I then welded about 300mm on some plate and other than having to set the feed, power etc. I just need to practice loads so that I get the patch panels right first time around. On the way home yesterday I stopped by in a welding shop, and bought my birthday present from Nicola...... £48.00 Should help with cutting and grinding. Mate Martin will be around later for pizza, porn and probing my welder with his tester. Hopefully he will find all is fine. Looking forward to the birthday prezzie he got his boss to bring back from Thailand. When I went there a few years ago, I could not get a plate. He had some new ones made, and the used one comes from his Ford Escort he is having rebuilt in Thailand. Nice addition to my collection.

Do you have an old angle grinder left? It´s always nice to have one for cutting and another for grinding and not having to swap the disc while working. Yup..... I always try to keep two. Have a 20 plus year old Black and Decker, have repaired the power cord once, keeps on grinding/cutting. Also had a second grinder, and for some reason they keep breaking, 2 x Ryobi's killed and had a Silverline out the box NOT working, but as I had not registered it when buying off Ebay, when I wanted to use it a year plus later as I mostly use the old one, it could not get replaced.

They do'nt make them like they used to,angle grinders that is,I seem to reguarly kill the modern ones but my now 27 year old black and decker just keeps on going having survived twice falling from the top of a long ladder"do'nt ask" and also being dropped into a bucket of water, dried out ,quick squirt WD 40 good as new.Electric drills, mains powered, seem to need a new one every year no matter how much I spend,Total waste of money.

Went to the NSRA Swapmeet in Essex today. Collected my Wheel Vintiques Chrome smoothies and bought a pair of hubcaps for £20/pair which is less than half price. Now need a new pair of wheel adaptors made up, then find white wall tyres and get it behind the Chevy truck. Very pleased tonight. Went to NSRA Swapmeet today, got a call from (Gary) who collects wooden hotel and commercial clothes hangers..... he had me a Liberian plate. I also managed to buy a Belgian plate and got an old English plate for trading.

"If nobody wants it, I will take it to the tip in two weeks time"Well, of course I sent a PM, to say that if nobody wanted it, I would have it, rather than see it on the tip. So after two weeks I got the PM to say "Nobody mate, It's your's" Of course this meant being up at 05.30 to leave home by 06.15 for a very Mini-roadtrip...... 39 miles that should take 90 minutes each way. Arranged to pop over early on Saturday morning, woke at 04.00 and left as planned. Ultimately, I got very lucky in both directions, there and coming home as it only took an hour each way. When I got there, this was parked outside. Went indoors, and by 07.30 Dr David had made me a great cuppa coffee, and we sat chatting about just about everything......we will hopefully have a BBQ some time and also meet up at Wheels day. So of course, some of you will know what I went to fetch.... set under the good doctors feet. A rough-ish rear bumper from a 1969 Chevelle SS 396ci It is even larger than I had thought, but should be perfect for the project I have in mind. Answers on a post card please. Went to movies with Nicola tonight, and after movies at 20.30 got a text from Martin, he had organised some Argon/CO2 mix gas for us. £55.00 deposit once off on the bottle, and £36.00 per fill. No contracts. Perfect. This means I am a step closer to actually welding with the Argon shield I want to use on the truck. SOOOON I will be starting the strip down on the truck and cutting rust etc. But the plan is to do Wheels Day (where Top Gear is filed for our American brothers) first before I take the truck off the road.

Thanks for the invite but kids have planned the day for me, swimming, and cycling etc! No problem, any time you come by. Easter weekend we have the truck and teardrop on display at the Chatham Docks at the Steam and Traction show. So today I cleaned the outside, and Nicola cleaned the inside as well as the galley kitchen. Every time we do something with this trailer, the madness of the build makes us both grin madly. I cleaned the truck, tyres and tonneau cover as well. Even the side pipes got a fresh coat of matt black, so now we are ready to Rock n Roll.

Today was Wheels day in Surrey. I spent some money on various bits, including t-shirts, retro Thermos flask for the teardrop and some bits for the impending job of restoring the truck. Couple of new breathers for the valve covers. A can of yellow spray paint, and more importantly.... Zinc spray for the areas where I end up cutting and welding. Also a 500g tin of copper slip grease for the reassembly of the truck and mechanical parts as I go along. Suspect I may need some of it. Nicola made me buy this Sheriff's badge and wear it all day. One of Nicola's finds at Wheels Day today was this retro Thermos flask for £5.00 which she wants in the Teardrop.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows or has an opinion on where my rear bumper comes from?? MY TRUCK THREAD: 67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=585901I do not think I have seen one on any other C10's so it could be off something else. I would love to replace mine with a good one. ( I am in the UK though ) Look at the pics below to get an idea of its shape etc.nds cut to tuck it in close to the body below the rear lights. It has also had the e Pic below as demonstartion. Don in Arkansas replied earlier on my trucks thread. These bumpers are lovely, but not what I want, as I need to tow the teardrop trailer. I will keep on looking for the right one. Looking at buying a deal with a mate from Brothers in the USA to get our complete suspensions replaced with new shocks and springs. Just waiting to see what delivery is going to be. With transport, taxes and duties, the full set per truck, fitted, turns at around $700.00 MAD MAD MAD for spares that would cost $£320.00 fitted in the USA. Wish someone was flying out with empty suitcases.

Grizz,
On the bumper front (rear) my guess would be a 'dealer fitted option'. Not based on anything more than on my old 56 pickup I had a similar design bumper with tow bar attachment that had the dealers name embossed into it. Now, it could it be that it is an aftermarket part based off a similar design bumper?
I have seen 'original style bumpers with the receiving hitch idea that allows the towing ball to be removed when. When not in use. Sure you have done some googling but have a look at receiving g hitches and consider that with an original bumper.
Either way,an inspirational thread that is making me look forward to being the proud owner of a c-10 in the not too distant future. Keep going!

I will be looking out for your truck too. I postad on GJ as well and as the guys there say, Merica is a big place with loads of options an manufacturers. So finding the rxact source is an FBI job. Mine has had the ends trimmed to get it sitting closer to the body. In all fairness, it could be a Ford, Dodge or whatever product, adapted to suit. I like this one a lot, and would only replace like with like. I may even look at copying it in steel and painting or chroming it.

Thanks to mate Martin for ordering our shocks n springs from Brothers who have supplied at their April sale price.
I guess for the American readers we need to put things in perspective.
Just on combining shipping, we save about $110.00 to the UK.
I do not remember the total price you paid, but once we have landed the parts, it comes to about $730.00 once import duty and tax is added for the parts, so about $182.00 or in English money £107.00 per corner.
My trucks springs were lowered with a heat torch, so the ride is far from perfect or correct.
I felt that the suspension is a safety item, so needs to be set right when I start my teardown and rebuild.

Thanks to my buddy Martin, it seems I may have bought a "damaged in transit" new front bumper for the truck, to replace the one it wears now.
Martin bought a Tripple Chromed Premium bumper from the USA and on landing here in the UK it fell from the top of the container, resulting in the one tip being bent in about 35-40mm which means I now need to pay the price and then need to straighten it out as much as possible with a press or in a vice, appropriately protected.
My existing bumper is good, as can be seen on photos, but it is not great. So I will sell it on to cover some of the cost of the risky repair.
Little by little the bits are comming together.

Thanks to mate Martin, even Nicola is impressed with your negotiation skills in getting the bumper at the sort of money that suits my budget. Again, just to put it into perspective for the Americans on here.... who pay local prices. Once we land an item it is a whole load dearer than it would be in the USA. So a $179.99 ($180.00 in my book) plus $30.00 penalty for it's size, bumper ultimately costs us closer to $500.00 once freight and import duties at 24.5% are added. Plus we often have to fetch items from shipping agents 30-50 miles away or pay further courier costs. Paying $85.00 or £50.00 for this bumper, in spite of the end being bent in by about 40mm is worth the risk, as it will be better than what I have fitted right now. So before committing to buying, I got to to remove the existing bumper. And with Martin's help as it's a heavy bit of steel, and I did not want to scratch it we tried fitting it to see just how badly 40mm put it out of line. Good side Bad side...... could not even get it to line up with the bolt holes. Looks like a bit of pressure and force will be in order to get the end bent out to slide into position.
