I'd go with that ^^ Times are hard, chances are people may go for a golf VR6 as a track day car, but the Passat? I'm not sure it has the same appeal Unless it's a diseasal running on chip fat!! Not as track day car though!!)

Hmmm the market is a bit odd at the moment, I recently offered my well developed GT4 celica at a very good price. All I got was silly offers :/ Why are you selling? Might be just worth keeping it

Most people who want a big estate cars buy diesels these days, a performance petrol one will be even harder to shift. The market for guys who want a sports car but must have plenty of room wasn't massive to begin with let alone now everyone is skint. Big turbo Volvo estates are not selling either, especially as the newer diesels are getting faster and cheaper.
The days of 25mpg cars are passing fast for most people and the enthusiast market is very dependent on economic climate.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

There's always a 'market' for cars like this, but sometimes it takes time to sell.

It's a good price, but got to agree with all the above. I don't know much about the VR6 lump, but mabe the 170K on the clock and the misfire might put people off?

Agreed with all of the above! recently tried to sell a BMW 5 series petrol and not one bit of interest bar the scrap value, nothing wrong with the car at all just people are put off by the petrol price. Needless to say I am now keeping said BMW

It took six months to sell my 1.3 Nissan Sunny which was at a cheap price. I can't say I come on here to look for nearly new saloons, maybe you're trying the wrong places to sell?

My honest thoughts without wishing to offend would be the price. I have a '96 Audi A6 estate that needs nothing and I would think myself lucky to get £750 for it in this climate.
As has been said, the market for big engine estates is very small. People who want an estate want economy and people who can afford something fun with a big engine get a jag or a coupe.

I can't say I come on here to look for nearly new saloons, maybe you're trying the wrong places to sell? How is an 18 year old car 'nearly new'? Regarding the car, as everyone else said it's the market place more than anything coupled up with the fact that the Passat VR6 isn't the most well known car in the world so you're missing the people searching them out like you would on a more mainstream car. I would personally love a Passat VR6, of all the cars that came with that engine it's my favourite, hang in there, it'll go eventually.

I think its the miss fire that's putting people off as it could cost £10 to fix or 100s so I would get that sorted if you can. you buy a v6 for smooth fast driving but with the misfire it shouts money pit to me.

Sadly I think the days of people paying for a clean, well-specced B4 Passat are not here yet. Your average (budget) Passat buyer wants a cheap, economical one to use, abuse and play with a bit.
Either keep hold of it until it's appreciated or drop your price. I'm sure that in a few years time we'll all be wishing we bought a VR6 Passat wagon for £1250, but right now people want £1000 Diesels!

If its not selling there is only one thing wrong and that is the price, you will sell anything if the price is right.
I just sold my MR2 turbo for £500 it needs work and I was bored of the sight of it, it was sold in no time, yet there are people saying that there MR2's arn't selling its not gonna when you have it up for £3k.
Simple way if you want rid is to start bidding at 99p on ebay it will sell its what I did with my Laguna only problem was the winner was a prick and tried to haggle the price with apparent faults only down side was this engine can't have them as there not fitted!

most things have been covered, such a car at that price shouldnt have faults such as a misfire. ive had 6 b3/b4s now and tbh, asking anything over 850-ish for a b4 is strong money no matter what the spec.
as simon says, if it was a 1.9TD or TDI with the same spec,it would have sold striaght away for a grand no problems.
looking at it from a different view, is that the market for these cars wasnt large when new, so the market now is positively miniscule. people looking at buying a large luxury estate car did not buy a passat with a lairy v6 weighing down the front, even if it has lots of toys, as they don't feel very balanced to drive, very nose heavy and not cabable of doing much with the power they have as its asking too much of two wheels to handle the power, braking and steering. instead they bought a rear wheel drive bmw or mercedes with a comparible sized engine and trim/spec level, which feel a lot more refined as one end deals with power and the other with stopping and steering. simply, they're so rare cos VW sold sod all of them to start with as no one wanted them. rarity doesnt equal worth or desirability I'm afraid.

Basically its only worth what people will pay and people don't want a cheap big engined car . If people only have a little bit of money for a car , it begs that they can't afford much petrol either .
