We're in Paris now, the car stayed with a friend near Orléans while my gf and I were in Lisbon for five days, and we'll drive back home on Monday morning. The car is still playing up a bit, but not above 86°C so I'm not too scared. It was nice to drive it again, especially since we found that road on the way! She's now done a little more than 10,000km since I bought it

10,000 km! Nice work, and through some lovely scenery even better New more scenery pictures please! I'm glad to hear the temps are keeping themselves slightly more under control, I guess you'll have a better chance to diagnose the problem when you're home.

No more scenery pictures for now I'm afraid, but rather winter car-fiddling plans! I already have bought quite a few parts for the slight top-end rebuild (valve stem seals and valve grinding, O-rings, head gasket, etc), but I still have a few things left to acquire (chain tensioner, those long head bolts I can't remember the actual name of, etc). Plans also include a little suspension rebuild, with everything I can think of renewed under there. It'll also give me a good opportunity to do some rust-proofing, repainting suspension parts, and possibly look for hidden rust. I wanted yellow Koni dampers but thought them to be too expensive, turns out they're only €60 from the manufacturer! Good news. Also, I want polyurethane bushes, but I don't want the car to become uncomfortable either; does anyone know what should be polybushed and what should remain soft rubber? I was thinking of poly-ing the chassis side and leaving the axle side in rubber, but any advice is welcome Lastly, I should be soon buying these wheels for €180 delivered: The Alfa steelies don't hold air to well with tubeless tyres, and the BWA wheels are nowhere near being on the car so I obviously needed alternate plans! Heehee I hope the last few Cortina bits I'll put up for sale this weekend will sell for good money, because they'll be funding all this stuff...

The cheque will be mailed tonight, those sweet oldschool 2-piece rims are soon to be mine!
I have to refurbish the 13-inch 1973 Mille Miglia wheels I had bought for the Cortina, so I'll do all 8 wheels at once I think. Those will be sold, and the new ones put on the Alfa till I find a way to solve that PCD issue.

Still posting on my own, but I don't really mind www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/543041430.htm?ca=5_sSomeone buys it! It's only a 1300 and without the nice Weber carbs but you English people could sort this out in no time! The ad says it's been vandalised, apparently a longtime ago (which paradoxically has saved it, since it was put in a garage instead of rusting away on the roads), and the body is said to be in a bad state but who knows. It's complete, all the parts are there, three of the doors have been changed, and the paperwork is as it should be apparently.

Haha good then, I do have a question to ask but then it's getting silly to post four times in a row Well perhaps it'll raise some interest! Here it goes: Dolly Sprint front spoiler or not?

I'm gonna say hold off on the front spoiler till you know how she sits with the new wheels and any lows you may be planning on The look can work on the 105 coupes, so can't see why the saloon couldn't pull it off but I think you'd need all the other mods to go with it. Good score on the Koni yellows! Personally if you're heading down the route of sports dampers, wheels, front splitter, etc then I'd pollybush the whole thing and not worry about a little loss of ride quality. I've not got any Alfa specific thoughts on mixing bushes, only that on the Rx7 I know people talked about polybushing the lower arms on the axel and using standard rubber on the upper arms to get a compromise of less axel movement than stock but still allowing more articulation than fully pollybushed.

Actually I think that the wheels could make the ride less harsh because they reduce unsprung weight (the seller has weighted them, 28kg for all four rims)... But yes you're right the front spoiler isn't top priority anyways There are quite a lot of Giulia racers but none of them seems to have one, I'm kinda wondering why... (another one for the black steels thread) Perhaps it's because the sump is right behind it, and wouldn't get enough air to cool it? Aerodynamically I'm pretty sure it would be a good thing. As for bushes, well, it's cheaper not to put poly bushes everywhere also I've been looking at Alfaholics stuff but they don't seem to do a complete kit and what they sell is usually expensive. I think it might be best to buy them directly from Superflex or whomever.

Or perhaps it's because they look mean enough without it when given The Treatment?

I cant see air flow being a huge issue, could always add a couple of ducts? I suspect it's much more likely that because they didn't fit them to the race cars in the 60s/70s that most people want their cars to look period correct. Google says the splitter on the coupe can be hugely awesome..... I think photoshop is required once you've got it sat on the suspension with the wheels.

Mr Vulgalour> I want local children to be scared about finding this car under their bed when they go pee in the middle of the night. Haha just kidding, but yeah 'treated' Giulias look incredible goldnrust> I'm relying on the community to photoshop something when I'm ready to maybe fit the spoiler, I'm useless at this! And as a general rule, when the usual Alfisto (?) doesn't do something, it makes me want to do it...

I know what you mean about not following the usual crowd and direction for these old italian cars And all this splitter talk is making me wonder how one would sit on the Fulvia..... I can probably sort you out a rough potatochop when the time comes

Ha! I've actually found a picture of a Giulia sedan with a chin spoiler: I don't like that the least bit but then it seems to be off a Golf mk1, which is not quite what I'd want. It has to be less conspicuous. It could look cool on a Fulvia too, but it would have to be dropped quite a lot which I'm not sure would work too well with those delicate Fulvia lines... the Giulia is brutish in comparison

While the splitter does indeed look terrible on the above, the wheels work surprisingly well. I reckon that red racing one posted further up did the splitter better but I'm still not sold on the idea. I think it's one of those things that has to be very right to work otherwise it's not worth doing... what about a scaled down version of a Rover SD1 deep chin spoiler?

Without side skirts I think it could look a bit awkward... or Alpina style, it depends on your point of view The reason why I think my car could pull off the 'chin spoiler look', is because I still have a front bumper and the quad lights don't make the front of the car look as blunt as it does on the Gulf one. It's actually a reason why I wanted the chin spoiler in the first place, early cars don't need it but the Nuovas look a little weird.

I've been kindly given an old car radio. I love it! It's been a hassle to fit (mainly because I'm bad at this), but it works. Well, at least the RH speaker works, not the LH. It's dead, it would seem (swapping them gives the same result). The previous radio used other speaker which were on the parcel shelf. They were ugly, not original to the car, and the sound was not impressive. I'm glad I changed it, especially since it was free! As for the other stuff I want to do to the car, it's on pause at the moment. I'm soon starting a 9-month training course to become a metal fabricator/welder, mostly thanks to RetroRides (I'm not joking!), the problem is I don't know exactly when or where. I should have the new wheels this week, I can't wait!

You not gonna give the poor old girl a bath? I was expecting a bunch of 'now clean and shiny' pictures at the bottom of that post Radio looks good, but to be honest I was more struck with how awesome the blue centres of the dials are! Looks really classy, and without seeing it I wouldn't have believed anyone who say blue dials would look good in a car like this.

Give that car a deep clean right this minute...!!!! You cannot beat a 'used' looking classic but you need to get that de-grimed ASAP...!
I like the idea of fitting a Dolomite chin-spoiler as I thinkg it could look very good indeed. If it doesn't then it doesn't really matter as it can always be removed!
Those 2-piece split rim alloys look amazing and they will make you Alfa look so cool it'll be ice-cool...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
