Not particularly cool or retro, but I thought you guys might like my plans for my new daily. I've had a couple vans before, one being a Skoda Felicia 'cubevan' and a Citroen 2cv AZU250. The latter I wanted to build a bed in the back, managed to half get some shelving in but was sold on before the idea took off. I clocked this on a forecourt on the way home from work for £795 and had to take a peek. A phonecall later and a test drive meant I had to haggle on price. The van is pretty mint, small bubble on one rear arch, back box is non-existant, engine is dusty and dirty but bone dry. I pick up tomorrow. Ive been looking at small camper conversions done by companies and by owners, but couldnt find any escorts. To be honest, there'll be naff all headroom, so I'm thinking along the lines of a collapsible bed into a futon style seat with a couple cupboards and a cooker, all removable in case its needed for van duties. Stay tuned..

I started work on a 2cv van but sold it before I got to really get going, I've figured out a clever bed idea, and should hopefully get the bed I bid for and a new camping stove in the next few days. Anyway, picked it up this morning, drives tight as a drum but feels rather gutless, one can only hope that when I start kitting out the back I don't slow it down too much more!

They came gutless from the factory, Chris. The non-turbo 1800 dizzler in these was a horrible old lump of pig-iron, having said that they are nigh-on indestructible. We had one a few years back which was kitted out for rally servicing/chase car duties, with a full compliment of tools/towing gear/waterproof clothes/tarpaulins/CB yada yada the blessed thing would struggle to pull 70mph on the flat. Never ever let us down though.

You could always fit the turbocharged version of the same engine if you ever added too much weight.

to be fair guys I'm used to gutless 2cvs so this feels like home! Engine is last thing for me to think about(makes a nice change) must prioritize and not scour eBay for replacement engines just yet.. speaking of priorities, i've not even had a closer inspection of it yet, literally just driven it to work and back then loaded it with cr@p for the car boot tomorrow. will upload some pen and paper ideas so keep an eye out!
