Well, the title says it all.
Every now and then I have this bloody thing cross my mind, and my wife wants one too.
Vintage Vespa APE 3 wheeler.
There is a knackered one on UK Ebay, but it may go to silly money, so Italy is the next stop.
Links, tips anything on buying from Italy.

I think most of the bike based stuff has been well picked over now so you may be struggling to find anything at a sensible price, I had a mate in the 90's used to go over once a week with a LWB transit to fetch as many honda XL's as he could fit in. Can't remember what the paperwork situation was as most came without plates but with a photocopy of the Italian version of a logbook. Registering was simple just a dating letter to confirm what the logbook said. I think there was something about transfering the registration which made it prohibitively expensive hence older stuff was cheap at the time...

I got a Vespa P50 APE from Belgium. It was "take it away for free" from somebody we knew :-) Might be worth looking at Paris & Brussels small ads. My Microcar RJ125 & DX125 came from a dealer in Montlucon purely because I spend several months a year in that area. Also don't expect to get it cheaper just because in Europe - expect to pay almost as much as UK. Helps if you speak the language if hunting abroad as the best places are out of the way where English speakers aren't so common If I wanted another APE I've buy in the UK. Simple reason if by the time you have crossed the channel and found a vehicle you then have to register in the UK so all the expenses involved invalidates any saving compared to UK sales. They were popular with hospitals so they are out they if you are patient and keep looking. Try RUM - www.rumcars.org/Paul h

Mine was a 50cc version and single seater with scooter type handlebars. They also made a 400cc two seater with steering wheel. The 50cc is painfully SLOW if loaded or any gradiants. For charity a chap collected one direct from the factory in Italy and drove it all the way back to the UK importers premises.

search for "triporteur" on www.leboncoin.fr. Keep the search in All categories "tout categories - tout la france" as they are listed variously in cars, bikes, collectors items etc etc... you will need to trawl through all the parts and bicycles etc, but this saves missing the odd gem tucked in an obscure category. Let me know if you need translation / help etc.... My local commune maintenance crew have one for blezzing about in. 2 up with a bag of cement in the loadbed and its down to walking pace...
