Hey peeps, MOT runs out on the imp soon, and TBH, I'm fairly (99%) sure that it won't pass, but I'm going to stick it in anyway and see how it gets on. Predictions: Kingpins Battery not fixed Headlight adjustment Bodywork on front wing has sharp edge Probably oter stuff as well I will of course try and get it through, but the test is more to see what exactly needs to be done. On the bodywork issue though, the nearside wing is in need of replacement from the crash, and has a couple of creases/tears which have sharp edges. I really really really can't afford the £100+ for a new wing at the moment which is a shame because I've had someone offer to do weld it for me So it I cover the thing in filler over the sharp edges etc, maybe a bit of gaffa tape or something, just so that there are no longer and sharp bits, would this be enough to get it through dya reckon? Cheers peeps Pic of said car pre crash to keep up the interest

Cheers peeps I'll see how well it goes! RE headlights- Er the wing is fubar'd so the only thing hold the headlight in place is a block of wood inbetwee the light and the inner wing

My audi failed on sharp edges on the wing (for some reason they all rust right at the top of the front arches).... bashed the edges in and lobbed a load of filler over so it was mostly level. Passed fine

Kingspins are a bit tricky these days, most testers are not used to them. They should have 'some' play but this is often seen to be too much by testers.
Are they easy to greae on an imp? I tend to grease the one on the citroen the day before the test and if they are a bit loose, do it again just round the corner from the test station.

Ah that's interesting, maybe worth taking the car to a garage more used to dealing with classics then? They are dead easy to grease on an imp, just a grease nipple on the front, no need to jack the car up or take a wheel off, so shall do as suggested- night before and round the corner

Most kingpins are best greased with the load taken off the suspension to allow the grease to work its way round everywhere so it might be an idea to jack it up quickly anyway. Its always a good idea to find a classic familiar MOT tester but you'll need to ask around if you don't know of one locally yourself. jack the front up and see for yourself if there is any play in the kingpins a small amount 1-2mm up and down should be acceptable but if you grab the wheel top and bottom and feel more than a couple of mil then the tester could fail it. the only kingpins i see are on ldv vans and the odd merc van. take the car somewhere and get the headlights sorted as this is the most common failure item and if you try to adjust it during the test with bits of wood it wont go down too well.battery is not part of the test but you would get an advisory notice, any item which is worn but not an obvious fail should be passed and advised and i should stay with the car and ask the tester to show you any points that the car fails on during the test, and if you don't agree tell him so . The last thing any test station wants is an appeal so if any item is not fubarred then it should be passed and advised

Cheers for those replies peeps. Like i say, being realistic I don't expect the car to pass, just means that I will know where exactly I stand with the car.
