the first gen rx7 was quite small. no idea what they're like in terms of maintenance/reliability though. I get the impression that they suffer from rotor tip wear more than the fc though. although the fc is quite a big car, it actually feels quite small. mainly because your sat very low and the steering is quite light. might be a good option for you? they're cheap too. first gen compared to yank truck edit: as for whats good/bad about rotary good: good at high revs it makes a good story when you explain the cc (2x650cc but registered as a 2.4 due to it being wierd) quite reliable if looked after (so I'm told, less moving parts apparently) bad: drinks oil (only when revved a lot in my experience, i check weekly anyway) drinks petrol people love to thrash them around rotor tip wear is WHEN rather than IF not great at low revs you cant turn them off when they're cold, they chuck so much oil in that it will flood if stopped when cold. i know theres more bads than goods but i love mine

i was listen to them in youtube & i think they sound brilliant, really manic!!! sounds like the engine shouldbe in a mental home compared to the normal type cylinder engine
would'nt mind one as a 2nd fun car, i don't drive that quick cause i'm a rubbish driver, in the bends but not the str8's, strange i know!!!
& there are turbo versions!!!
another good point i heard was the engines are very smooth! i'm in coventry & one of the main rotory engine specialists in coventry, been going for years n years too! might be worht me having a mooch around & natter with them too!
a bit differant to the norm too! defo plus point

yeah they are smooth. a passenger pointed that out whilst i was "giving it the beans" one day.
from what iv heard, turbo ones need rebuilding sooner than non turbo. makes sense i spose.
just noticed your in coventry. if your ever in the banbury area, let me know. ill give you a ride in mine if you want to see what its like?

My sa22c is on 118,000 mines,no tip replacement yet and the compression is bang on.....make of that what you will. 12a FTW

bad: drinks oil (only when revved a lot in my experience, I check weekly anyway) Dump the oil metering system and run 2 stroke in the tank and the engine oil will stop dropping

^ if it was citroen bought most of them back and crushed them as they were super unreliable and the rotary had already got a huge amount of bad press (from which it still suffers) due to the NSU's problems. So they thought it better to buy them back and save face (pity they don't do similar now with the citroen/pugeot sh1te they make currently)
The only vaguely "common" rotary engined car you will find in the UK for sensible money is an Rx-7 everything else is too new, to expensive or far far to rare.
Of course it is very easy to drop a rotary into anything rear wheel drive and most cars have been done before in some place in the world (usually NZ or Aus, but they are very popular in the US ...especially Puerto Rico)
1st gens are going for bargain prices at the moment and are really nice cars.

Which MX-6? The mega-curvy one has 2.5L V6 and is FWD. Some/most have 4ws, too. The squarer one has a 2.2L 4-pot and are FWD. Some are turbo. Some are 4ws. Go a 1st gen RX-7. Dead simple and stacks of fun.

Go a 1st gen RX-7. Dead simple and stacks of fun. Concur, having had the opportunity to punt someone elses Series 1 7 around a track, I can definitely see the fun factor, because of where you're sat it's kind of like being in a Caterham/Lotus 7 with a roof and full body... really simple to feel what the rear end is doing.

someone was asking about the rotory specialists in coventry, the ygo by the name of:
hurley engineering, they have been doing rotory stuff for 30+years even on the old nsu ro80 (remeber that peeps) they have lots of cars & engines & do recon motors at what seems to be good value to me with a 2yr warrentey! unlimited milage too! not bad!
they sell the odd car rarely but it may be worth a look on the website or a vistitn chat if they don't mind!

just checked out that site (http://www.hurleyrotary.com/) didnt realise there was a rotary specialist so close. definately good to know its there! plus its just under £2k to have the whole engine replaced. most rotarys can probably be repaired but its good to know that worst comes to worst its "affordable" to just replace the whole engine. possibly with an upgrade
