Following on from this thread yesterday retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1172864802This is what I have got done so far this morning First problem I have is that I fitted the brace I used on my monza. Now this should have been fine but when I have checked all the measurements I notice that the drivers strut which has been repaired last year by a local welder to Andy is 25mm in over from where it should be. So when I have lined it up with the brace the struts have gone from being like this / \ To this / / I need them like this I I So I have to work out where the drivers strut will be once I move it in relation to were it is now and then set about the passenger strut to get that in the correct position with it being the loose one Pleased I didnt have too much to drink last night Front end in line so ready to strip it all away Drivers side needs a bit of work around the headlight as well Passenger side Doesnt look to clever Out wid `de grinder Lovely ;D You can see a previous repair here as well And thats were I have stopped for dinner

The rest of todays progress. finished off cutting out the rot on the passenger side Then starting welding in fresh steel. There is a hell of a lot of seam sealer on this monza but for some reason it is underneath the overlapped original steel must have been gaps when it was originally made, causing a few porosity problems with some of the welds so I have had to grind down and re weld a few times. I am out tonight and my nieces birthday party tomorrow afternoon so not expecting that much progress on it tomorrow.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Might be slightly different but not much Excellent - refine the idea each time...... The thing that will always give me the hump is these repairs are made so much harder by the bodged previous repairs - bosh on a thin tin plate - smear on some seam seal - tidy with filler - cover with paint And then all the corrosion carries on underneath untill finally it breaks out from cover and turret top moving around like tree branches in a gale

I heart monzas - that colour is fantastic too!
I must say the standard of work is incredible - your welding is great and I tip my cap to you for saving another of one my favourite cars!
Looking forward to watching this progress!

Monday nights progress. Not as much as I would have liked (I had hoped to have this side finished tonight). Never got in until nearly 8 and out of respect for my neigbour I don't like setting the grinder away after ten unless I am desperate (another reason for getting a plasma cutter ) Coming together nicely now. Tomorrow should see some of this taking place

Tonights progress One side pretty much complete Need to decide what to do about a drain. I left mine like that, there is a 2 inch unwelded section beneath the drain hole with a 4mm gap behind it. Was a bit concerned about it being a bit of a trap but it seems fine on mine (checked it pretty regular. Plan on something a bit better on this one. Only other things left to do on this are rustproof/seam seal/underseal etc. and strut top bracing. But I will do both of those once the otherside is complete
