hello all, i was wondering if someone on here knows much about maestro vans, i was thinking i'd like one, but i'd like to know a bit more about them before i really get in to looking at them.
i know they do a 1275 engine, is this an A series engine? (i'm in to minis so it'd be good to stick with what i know) also, are the brakes the same size as the mini or metro? i've some mini alloys kicking round that might look pretty cool
and lastly, does anyone on here know of any pictures of them having been modified? just for some ideas of what i could go for?
thanks all!

Yep the 1275 engine is an A series, there was a thread discussing where they have all disappeared to recently hereDon't know about modified ones but a turbo/hot A series would be interesting

Go with the Maestro. Cool though they are the Caddy has been "done" to death. Just my opinion.

Van has same bay as the car, so options are many and varied on the engine front. 1275 A series, 1600 R/S Series, 2000 O series, 2000 M16 and the ultimate would be 2000 16V Turbo from the Rover 200/400/Coupe. Check out Moto Build for Maestro bits n bobs - engine conversion kits, 'sorsts, sussies etc. There's not much Maestro on their www site now, but they might still be able to help. www.moto-build.com/Also check out the owners' club. www.maestro.org.uk/

i love the idea of a quick engine, but i have to admit i'm rubbish with mechanicals, that's why i thought at least if i stick to a-series i won't get too many suprises...and just make it a bit lower and some fat wheels..nothing too extravagent.
also, as i'm a newbie...what's FTW that you lot say all the time?

I toyed with the idea of getting one and sticking a TD from a Montego in it (they only ever came with an n/a diseasel, didn't they?). That would make a great workhorse, and quite nippy too. Despite the number that were in use, they are hard to find in good nick these days. Beige slammed over black banded steels was the way I was going to go.

The A-series bears little relation to a Mini lump. It uses a VW gearbox and the box is on the end rather than in the sump.
