Holes in the air filter housing shouldn't cause it to be difficult to start or pull away. Probably needs a good service before anything else. Have you checked timing and carb adjustment ? Has it passed a recent MOT to confirm emmisions, and therefore carb, OK ? Does manual choke work ? If autochoke are you sure that is working ?

I have striped and complete and cleaned all carns, and choke runs sweet as a nut, but on pull off when stone cold she takes a lot of revs 3-4k else she stalls? i thought to much cold air as its warm air carbs direct from manifold

No - it won't be too much cold air. There is something else causing the problem and seeing you have stripped the carb down my money is on that. It could be something like an air leak in the carb to manifold joint but more probably you didn't reset it properly so just needs proper adjustment. Did you carefully follow instructions in a manual for stripping and rebuilding the carb or simply "have a go" ? Often, for a few quid, the MOT tester will tweak the carb.
