This was posted up in the Ebay thread... And it's rocked my world, I've always liked the Mk4 Cortina but never really wanted one. They feature well down the list after Mk2s, 3s etc. But this thing has really bitten me... Everything about it is what I'd want from one and I'd quite happily own it in a second. So, I want to know what cars changed your perception? This place is very good for throwing up a new take on a well known shape. My picture files are full of stuff that I thought I'd never like, so I've stuck a few others in that some of you will have seen, again all models that never appealed until I saw them given each particular treatment... What are yours? They must be models you'd never have bought otherwise... The more mainstream the better too, as there's loads of obscure stuff I wouldn't have looked at before. But that's too easy. Thought it might be a good chance to try and pervert a few minds. ;D ... Tinypic is having a hissy fit and I can't upload anymore pics. I'll whap some more up tomorrow...

That Cortina looks the busines. Looking forward to more pics. I agree! That would make a cracking retro-ride - UBER KOOL. I'd struggle to get that one past 'the management' though... imagine the conflab: Me: 'What I really really need is a two door RWD sporty thing in red' Her: 'You already have one of those, so forget it.' Me: 'Owwww' *sulks* This is a regular occurrence. ANyway, back to the task in hand.... Prior to RR, I think I would have struggled to see there was quite so much KOOL to be had in one of these: ;D

slaters metro need I say more? No, that's clear enough... Spot on example. I would never have considered one either, and now I can't because Slater did such a top job. SS, you surprise me with your choice? What is it that offends you so much? Sorry if you've been over it before. I can see where you're coming from, I've always liked VWs, apart from Beetles... Which seems kind of wrong really. I'd have something like Keefys producing, but then if you can build whatever you want then ultimately you'd have any car to choose from. I just find it interesting given your Skoda passion. Pog, I thought you'd have been a Marina man through and through? Here are some more pics of the Cortina, plus a few other mainstream choices that I would never have considered until seeing these. That's all there is... 9500 Euros Turbo motor, great for drifting... Certainly changed my opinion. Never been a Pug fan, but these two 505s made me realise that a cheap large saloon with a few race inspired graphics could really work. It's almost as if suddenly the potential of the shape is unleashed MX5. Always liked them... But this means i may well have one at some stage

the same thing I like about the volvo240 is what did it for me on my old cortina's simple front engined rwd solid axle'd robustness and suitably breezeblock shaped! funny thing is that I never really liked vw too much but when a freind had a varient imported from australia in a dusty flat baige and wide chrome 12slots.......... wow that caused a "damp pant" moment! ;D si

That Cortina/Taunus? is just hawt.
I know exactly what you mean about Metros. So whats the "next Metro"? I want to do a Landcrab but someone will beat me to it I know.
I'm more about "everything has potential" than I was I guess, rather than having gone to the darkside on any particular make or model.
One thing for sure, I have always had a latent liking for 70s J-tin and this place had brought that up to a bit of a boil

I know what you mean AK, I've always pushed the same point. Plus I've owned brands from all over the world, so I've never had a real alliance to anything... But that said I there are a lot of cars that I wouldn't go out of my way to own. I guess what I'm trying to say is that although I could appreciate a Metro, and given time I could probably do something good to one, when I saw Slaters... That was it. Absolutely spot on. It was the same with that Taunus, just something about it screams 'yes'. I'm interested to see what's switched other peoples perceptions... Although looking at my choices so far, anything with dished rims, slammed and maybe some race graphics or standard looks get's the win. It would appear I'm easy to please. ;D

You probably won't believe me, but I have always seen the potential in cars - nothing has escaped my imagination!
That said, I did have an anti-Ford policy until relatively recently (back in the old SM days, Escorts were the enemy!) and I don't like SAAB Sonnets - although I could still envisage a cool one. ;D

To be honest this website has really opened up my eyes to loads of stuff and made me change my views on a lot of cars. One example i can think of straight off was a Talbot Samba i seen parked at an abandoned house close to home (not in the best shape and i was really just laughing at it) and then i did this on protonsnap and now i'm tryin to find the previous owner... (Maybe a small Lancia Delta Integrale clone if you use you're imagination a bit!) A lot of the J stuff i see here does the same.Previously, if i had seen this galant: i wouldn't have appreciated as much after seeing the likes of this and realising the potential: Then there's the VW's which, to be honest, i wasn't that excited by......(sorry, get over it!)...but then this nearly made me mount the computer: and these too Wasn't keen on these models either til i seen these snaps/MS Paint alteration Imagine if you had the skills and the money to do them all......

Owning a Volvo 480 turbo - Brought it cause it was the cheapest turbo car I could afford. Opened my eyes to the fact, that volvo make awesome cars and there is a moassive home made tuning industry devoted to making bricks go fast! Plus it got me out of a "I can only own a ford rutt" Love the fact that J car mags seem to like Volvo 340 drifters

This place hasn't opened me up to any new cars in terms of thinking about modding them,.. what it has done is given me a huge education about cars though, I'd not heard of any Taunus, or the Isuzu Bellet, or Hino, or Datsun Cedrics,.. or one of a billion different cars that I've found out about because of this place.
Whats more of anyone here I'd say this place has changed my life the most... ain't it great..

I just find it interesting given your Skoda passion. quick points then: VW themselves largely contributed to giving Skoda the image they had in the 80s and 90s. In the 70s and before, Skoda were very well respected, in fact hugely respected in some places although they didnt sell much in the UK, and actually outsold VW in some countries (as did the NSU Prinz until VW bought it too, I just found out) The hype that surrounds VW irritates me. So, they built a stolen design (Tatra, IFA, Skoda - all had built cars that look like the beetle pre-war) which was frankly a bit dead, and a bit sparse, but cheap. Then they built this 'amazing' hot hatch. front wheel drive, not special styling, nothing to go mental about especially against a mk2 scrote. Bosch electrics are curse word. simple as. PAL should have been kept. When I first started driving and modifying, by far and away the most offensive and ignorant people were VW owners/fans. It got to the stage where I got threats, had to abandon an NI forum and leave the show scene because I didnt like VW's which are of course Teh Kewlest CarZ In Ze World and anyone who doesnt like them is a commie. And the 'scene'. It pisses me right off how adding fog lights, 18" Kahn replica's and -ooooh- colour coding your mirrors and handles makes a mk3 golf special. thats not a scene, and it destroyed Euro for me. It was literally at the stage in NI where polishing and waxing a VW made it 'Euro'. Of course I argued that and got told I was a tosser for not understanding the scene. WHAT SCENE??? that wasn't so quick...

Mucho bizarro, but very flattering. Thanks for the answer SS, interesting experiences. I've never been a Beetle fan, but just for reasons of practicality...

Some cars, particularly British cars passed me by, but what can be done with a modest budget and an effective plan of action is astonishing. Racer86's old Chevette and Slaters Metro has really opened my eyes. Even the 80's J stuff I dismissed has given me rude thoughts.
Many of my 'friends' would dismiss many of the cars on here. I talk about the desire of owning an early Hyundai Pony and instantly get mocked. They don't get it. Which makes this place even better- there's potential in almost everything.

Yeah, knew it was yours alright Bryn...remember seeing it in a certain publication a few years ago. To be honest, it just looks 'right'....some people pay an awful lot of money and never seem to capture the right look and then some others just do it right full stop. Fair play.....i think it reminds me a bit of the one from the Gorillaz video
