I don't know but am looking to get a nice pillar drill such as a fobco or meddings.
Could anyone give me an idea of how heavy the drill portion is?
Only as I am looking on eBay and hoping to buy one and be able to dismantle it in to three in order to get it home in the car. The drill weight is the only thing I'm unsure of.

Is the motor free, ie not stuck? Have you opened up the switch box and checked connections? ( power off obviously) Is it a NVR ( No voltage Return) switch? They are known to go without warning. Thanks for the reply, not sure if it's an NVR switch, will have to look in daylight tomorrow.the switch throws back and forth under power and you can rotate the motor using the top pulley so,I don't think it's stuck.I hope it's something simple to fix because it's possibly the most useful piece of kit I own.

I have no clue what they actually weigh but I can assure you they are heavy, easy enough to carry short distances on your own once off the pillar,I took mine apart to transport.the fobco is easy to dismantle but I found it tricky to reassemble on my own due to it being so heavy. Thanks for the reply. I coincidently bought a drilling type thing today. I actually ended up getting a milling machine.
It was extremely heavy.
Got it moved but my god. It was heavy!

can anyone point me in the right direction on this please,my trusty drill has stopped working,it has power but doesn't go,the switch box just buzzes? I tried the motor and switch reset buttons but that hasn't helped.... Regards Bryan Is it the switch box or the motor that is making the buzzing noise? If it is the switch I would just replace it with a new one which should be quite easy to get and do. If it is the motor the next question is does it have a capacitor near the motor? I used to work on a lot of fan motors and when the capacitor failed the motor would buzz but not turn, you could give it a 'push' start and it would then work until it was switched off again.

I haven't had time to look at it again yet but,the buzz is coming from the switch box so shouldn't be too hard to fix then. any idea where to pick up a switch please? cheers Bryan

There are many types.

Not a fobco, but a different pillar drill. My motor switch died and the thing just sat there buzzing as someone hit the direction switch before the motor had come to a stop and welded the contacts... You may find that you can replace the individual failed switch, rather than the whole switchbox / controller.

Machine mart sell NVR switches.
Much safer than just putting an on/off switch on.
I'm assuming the motor doesnt have start and run coils.
I have a kerry super 8 (like your fobco but backgeared too!). That has a normal motor and a nvr but my old lathe has a 3 position switch and you have to power one set of coils to start then switch in another set to keep it running.

It "looks" like an NVR switch. By that i mean it looks like all the NVR switches i've had dealings with. ( previous job to current one,was service tech for nationwide tool hire company, checking testing and repairing various tools, and items of plant)

thanks for all the input on the drill,I've had a stroke of luck with it as it goes and it comes with a bonus.....
we had a decommissioned Fobco at the back of a storeroom at work which hadn't been working or seen the light of day in years so I dismantled it to switch parts hoping to get mine running again, after stripping, cleaning, comparing and rebuilding them I now have 2 fully functioning units!
to be honest I'm none the wiser as to what was wrong with either but once I rebuild the second one and have it tested I'll have one to use at work too.

No,sorry.I had a bit of a look for one but, after speaking to a guy that used one regularly I decided not to bother any further. I remember there were a couple of sites that had pdf download manuals, try an open search. good luck Bryan

Thanks I did find one on line but you had to pay which I felt was a bit of a rip off for a couple of pages. I will have another look. Have to get off my chair now and fix it up!

If you need a belt just measure the length and width I presume it's just a v belt and go to your local motor factors and they'll supply the right size for a couple of quid

Why is an NVR better than a switch?
