For sale is my dad’s 1991 Mk1 Mazda MX5 Eunos 1.6 16v twin cam V-Spec edition in British Racing Green.
If you’re reading this advert, you probably already know what the V-Spec edition is but in case you don’t, here’s a quick run-down.
The V-Spec edition was only available as a Japanese import.
It features a limited slip differential as standard resulting in far superior road handling compared to the standard MX5.
It also features a ‘Nardi Torino’ designed interior consisting of a wooden steering wheel, wooden gear knob, tan tonneu cover and tan leather seats.
16” BBS Alloy wheels
So in short, it’s not just some ordinary car in a different colour labelled as a special edition, it really is a special piece of machinery.
Drive Train:
Revvy 1.6 16v Mazda twin cam with documented cam belt change
Good clutch with recent replacement slave cylinder
Tight, crunch free gearbox
Standard issue, fully functional limited slip differential with no whining
Uprated Magnecor HT leads (common failure point on these engines!)
Uprated silicon heater matrix hoses
Oil pressure gauge always reads very good pressure
Chassis:
Standard issue 16” BBS alloy wheels with good Toyo Proxes T1R’s all round
Standard Mazda Sport Eunos shock absorbers and springs all in good condition
Exterior:
Finished in British Racing Green with a black soft top
Also comes with the tan coloured tonneu cover (see photos)
Some blemishes consistent with the age of the car but nothing drastic (again, see photos)
Interior:
Chrome roll hoop (for show only; not structural safety!)
Very clean Tan coloured interior with leather seats (some minor wear on driver’s seat…see photos)
Dongle activated immobiliser
Sony CD player with 4 speakers. Two up front and one in each head rest (standard equipment)
Wooden ‘Nardi Torino’ steering wheel
Electric windows (passenger side a little slow but does work)
Wind deflector behind the seats
Faults:
It’s 22 years old so it’s going to have a few minor niggles!
The bodywork has a few small blemishes which, if you’re fussy, would want touching up
Passenger side electric window is slow although it still works
Driver’s seat has some minor wear
Tiny weep of oil coming from the rear of the rocker cover (a replacement gasket set is provided)
That’s it! Not bad for a car of this age I don’t think.
The private registration number on carbon effect plates (J99 LML) also comes with the car which is valued at £500 on its own.
There is masses of history with the car. My dad had it serviced religiously every year. It has had whatever it has needed regardless of cost.
MOT is valid until April 2014
Road fund licence is valid until end of August 2013
The mileage reads 218,000KM. It’s in Kilometres because it’s a Japanese import. This translates to just 135,000 miles. In the real world, this works out at an average of just over 6000 miles a year. That’s enough mileage to know it’s been driven and enjoyed as a driver’s car should be but not too much so as to worry about anything major going wrong!
The car is at my house, as is all the paperwork so any viewings will take place here.
The car is in a small village just outside Spilsby in Lincolnshire (Post Code PE23 4PU) and collection is preferred from here. I can however deliver the car within reason.
