i haven't had much time on the covin over the last few weeks. i got the drivers side rear wing made up. i made the skin then added extra glass before it got fixed in place on the car. i tried this way as its really messy slapping on resin with your head up in the wheelarch. anyway, i cut off the turbo arch and offered up the new arch but its was way too warped to get a good fit.its was too thick to get it into profile and in 3 area it was wayyyy out. just not worth the hassle so decied to make up another arch skin and fits as per the other side....ho hum.... So popped back to my friendly porsche place and borrowed the steel wing again to make another arch "skin". In the meantime, i took the front bumper off and dropped the new bonnet on just to see how it fits. the bonnet is a new long nose framed GRP bonnet, apparently it's the second bonnet out the new mould.

Great work as normal! That shot of the ns rear arch from the front looks great. This really floats my boat - all the style of an early 911 whilst being cheap enough to use/abuse without guilt/mega bucks. Keep it up!

This makes me happy, I'm so glad it's going to a proper long nose narrow body. Should look beautiful when it's done!
That Classic is stunning too! Eastnor Green has long been one of my favourite colours, it's a pity it's so rare nowadays.

Ah, the joys of fibreglass panels. It is convenient how the vendors forget to tell you how badly these things fit.
Saying that, it looks great all the work you are putting into it. It looks as if the Covin should be better than when it was converted to run the CVH engine!

not much to update really as its been the cosmetic surface prep for the passenger rear arch. using a body file to get the level. probably about 90% done on this wing.little skim of filler down by the sill and with a few high and low spots. the heater balancing on the hub is to get the resin to go off as i've still got to get a couple more layers of woven roving on the inside. Note the gap between the door and rear wing panel, which sums up the build quality by whoever built the car originally.

Trial fitting a front wing, which is grp but came off a real 911. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised by the fit of the covin to the wing.

Note the front ride height which is currently standard beetle with 2.5" dropped spindles. Good job I have an adjustable front beam to drop it a couple more inches. Very happy with the "tuck" potential as it was a bit of guess until a narrow arch wing could be offered up. Front rims are 4.5". Could have gone for 5.5" which would have been a bit tight.

passenger door is off after a minor struggle. the top hinge needs rebuilding so have ordered a new pin from porsche. bottom hinge is tight, so just needs lubricating. also ordered a pair of 911 alloy door hinge shims off ebay to assist in pushing the door back. also some shouldered m8x75mm bolts ordered

Always look forward to your updates. Good to see the original builders work being made right!

Once the bonnet was sorted, the passenger door came off which was quite a struggle. I layered up some glass on the hinge mounts as the door had to move rearwards a far bit. despite this, i still had to make up a load of alloy shims to space the door. Needless to say, the door isn't coming off again. the top hinge pin was also worn so its not worth aligning the door as its slopping about. Not sure if these hinges are porsche or VW but found a metal pin that was the perfect size, so its nice and tight now. Bottom hinge has about 8mm of spacer but does get the top of the door level with the 3/4 panel.
