My Pug 406 90hp HDI, started then stalled very quickly. Took a bit of churning to re-start, both things have never happened before. Engine has 200,000 plus and it was low on DERV, (the level light was on).
However, after it started it did the normal 50 mile drive home from work and without problems, but with the engine light on. Engine light is still on.
Oil and other fluids are OK and no obvious faults under the bonnet.
My question, is it worth booking an MOT in a months time or should I start to look for another car?
Thanks
Andy

If the light is still on, theres a fault logged in there (possibly from low fuel you mention) The HDi engines don't like low fuel levels as it leads to low pressure in the fuel rail. If that has occurred, then it will log a low pressure fault. Without getting the fault codes read theres only guessing to be done, and that gets expensive

Are these like the 407s? IIRC they are a common rail engine with a high pressure pump up front, yet they have no lifter pump in the fuel tank. Bleeding these can be fun...
You could always disconnect the battery and see what happens, or get the code read. If I was closer (assuming it has OBD II and it does not need Peugeot Diag machines) I would have read the codes. When did you last service this? Those 406 HDI engines can run for a long time! (In fact, it was ECU failure which killed the 110BHP 406 HDI at work which was on 497k).
You probably still have fewer error codes present than my Pissat truth be told!

Thanks everyone.
Light was on during the drive to work this morning, but off on the drive home, so I guess it had a bit of a hissy fit and is now over it!
And I got an early finish at work and got to do some of those little "roundtoit" jobs on the Triumph, so a good day got better!
