Thank you so much for posting this! I have been hunting around for a decent '72 MG Midget bodyshell for ages. They have one in stock and Ashbourne is only about 20 miles from me! Amazing what you can find right under your nose - I think I might be making a purchase....

They've got some nice stuff... But it all seems rather expensive knowing what I do about Californian prices. I'd say get a plane, have a holiday, buy and ship and still have change...

Volvo, Buggy, Discovery and an old tractor.

Some stuff is cheaper to buy here than import now as prices for certain makes and models are gone silly over there. I know a few good muscle cars have recently sold overseas because our market doesn't support the prices that the Swedes, Germans or Americans will pay for them.
But yeah, for unloved models its still a buyers market to a degree, especially for project level cars. Thing is if you do fly out to buy you either have to have some stuff lined up to see or not be too fussy about what you buy.

By the time you have put any of those cars on the road it would have been $$$$ cheaper to fly out and bring it back yourself, it always amazes me how importers get away with asking top money for junk yard finds. i bet Any one of those trucks would want a shed load of cash to get to just roadworthy, i spent $1500 dollars just doing the steering , kingpins and power brakes on my F100.

I'm suprised they bought that Lloyd/Goliath 2 dr estate back. They never came to the UK so not exactly a market for them here. Might sell to a nostalgic Deutschman though.
Expensive though given what you can buy it for in the States, particularly given the £/$ exchange rate.
For example who on earth is going to buy a non Mot'ed 84 Jeep Cherokee for £3000 when there are UK spec 90s ones with history and mot for the same money or less??

That Jeep always makes me laugh. Its been on there for 3 years no kidding.
Importers offer a service. Its a car, *here* You can look it over, you can think it over, you can bid them an offer. Many people will pay extra for the convenience and security of doing that. Importers pay the cash up front and are taking the risk on the stock they hold, they are doing it to make money, its their business.
I wonder how some dealers manage to make any sales when I see their prices. smog era Trans Am for £8995 and a Mk5 Cortina for £4000 and stuff like that. But someone pays it in the end I guess...
Importing a car yourself can save you money but a lot of people don't want the hassle or the risk of doing that. There is also the effect that after you buy you may not get the car over here for ages. Many of us are impatient! With misc occasional hold ups a mate was waiting 4 months on his Duster coming over. 3 months on the Fury. A mate of mine brought a Delorean in from New York and even that was nearly 3 months by the time it was here, but that was over Christmas which has its own delays.
