I would like to replace the factory headlights on the datsun. They are a quad set up and 5 3/4" in diameter and are a sealed beam variety . There appear to be lots of aftermarket lights available in egay (US) that probably are made in the far east and are of questionable quality. I know that some fellow datsun enthusiasts have succesfully used the early 3 series bMw's for donor lights . Sadly the mkI golf spot lights are a smaller diameter, ( lots of well priced upgrades available for the Golf). Are there any other cars that came with 5 3/4" lights that could be a cheap upgrade with possible H4 bulbs?

Sure they aren't 5 1/4" ??
If so theres a squillion fitments.
BMW 3 series, Mk3 Capri, Mk3 Cortina GT/GXL, Rover P6, Triumph 2000 / Dolomite, Jag XJ40 (I think), XJS export model, several kit car and generic aftermarket sources...
Loads. Its a really common size and fitment.

The stock ones won't be much of an improvement if any ove rthe Stock Datsun ones. However Lucas did a 75W sealed beam which was optional fit on the ROver P6 and its the same physical unit as the one on the Triumph, Vauxhall etc.
Will the Datsun dude does a H4 conversion kit for them too.

There are Halogen upgrade kits available for the Rover P6 also if you want proper vision. Always found the sealed beams fine on mine though.

fitting some bmw lights into a datsun measn you need to get a dril and saw out, some modifications are required to the front panel in order to get them to fit, both my 810's have bulb replacment lamps, if you can find a vanette there a straight fit as well as a few other modles others another point make sure you get right hand drive ones

ive got 5 3/4 lights on the firenza ( lucas ones i think ) but i'm replacing them this month . i was gonna get some hella ones through work which would take a seperate bulb (instead of a sealed beam) which were about £20 each but we discovered (on a recent scrapyard trawl) that the ones in a BMW 3series and i think some 5 series circa 1990 ish were the same . and they were hella ones too , all for a fiver each

practice the surprised look and "Oh, it must have fallen off officer" and you'll be fine. Ran no front plate on my 100E most of the time I had it.

Hmm, I like your statement ;D Trouble is that I just don't want to give the plod an opportunity to stop me in the first place and start giving it the once over.......

Just fit bulb replacement type lights from an A10, C210 or something?* That’s what I did when I had the 610 estate (for non-Datsun model code literate readers, a 180B like Datsfun’s), though I did have to be quite modest on what bulbs I put in them – initially I blew a fuse or two. I remember Ed or someone saying you need to be careful with 610 as they have a funny fuse/relay arrangement.
Sadly I don’t have a spare set.
*Meaning they’d still say Koito, much cooler.
