I'm starting to think the number of cars - and projects - is too great. I'm seriously considering slimming down at present, and I'm keen to hear peoples thoughts. Money is tight, so I'm thinking selling some cars to raise some cash and get at least one project done could be a good idea ... The bug needs finishing, and hasnt been touched in months now. Its the only definite keeper ... then theres the mighty benz. tax runs out tomorrow but mot'd till december. she been a reliable beast, but I think is top of my list to be shown the door.... the skoda has been bought and sat on my drive for a few months. id really like to do this car, but it needs sills and some repair to the arches. starts and runs nice though and theres the infamous 411. such a huge amount of time and effort (and expense) has gone into this car. My stubborn side makes me want to keep it, but it could be such a cool and useful car. plus its practical, and the dogs will fit in it. and theres my bike. I think this is a definite keeper. those of you who ride will understand ;D I could do with a daily. I guess the question is do I move on the skoda and benz and get the 411 as my daily? the 411 has insurance and tax is free, and isnt far off an MoT now. Or do I keep the benz cos its got a ticket (but needs rear suspension). I'm certainly the least attached to this car. And theres the skoda. which I think could be a good daily. but its definitely gonna need time, and panels. neither of which I have at present. actually, in theory I could sell the lot and get the bike sorted and use that when I need transport. theres still tashas yellow bug which I need to get back on the road and that will be another pair of wheels I have access to ... what would you do? ...

id sell the merc after a good polish, should see a fair few monies. keep the 411 and put it back as daily. leave the bug for now. tbh you'll get very little for the skoda in current state, not worth hassle of selling until fixed! and get bike back together for springtime daily

difficult, as they are all cool toys and good for different things. But I would think that rationalisation is a good move, otherwise there is a danger of nothing ever getting finished as thoroughly as I know you would like. How many miles are you covering for work at the moment? That needs to be a defining factor in this as well... plus other practical (dull?) considerations.... eg. moving other vehicles about (I'm thinking the race bug / the turbo bug). If I were you I would be inclined to sack off the lot (411 / Benz / Skoda) and look out for something that can be 'all things to all men' if you get my drift. Something like a Merc or BMW estate... great for any work travel you need to do, capable of towing and carrying large loads should the need apply, and ideal for taking your mutt out in... better him muddy the boot of an old wagon than the rear bench of your Benz or Tash's Fabia. I know it may seem a bit of a dull option, but I think it would also make the Turbo Bug a much more special experience when it's done, and give you more time, space and money to start thinking about Tasha's yellow beetle. Hope this helps, mate!

At least I';m not the only one who finds it easiest to sell the sensible one to keep every time LOL.
Reality and practicality says keep the Benz and sell the Skud and 411 (MOT it first though) and then concentrate on the Bug.
I keep being tempted to sell up and buy one decent car, maybe with a decent snotter as a daily/parts chaser. I know it makes sense but I really can't bring myself to do it.

How many miles are you covering for work at the moment? About 13 paces from the bedroom to the office! If it was me, I'd buy more cars. Then you end up with not being able to see the woods for the cars which means you'd never be able to sell any 'cos you'd never know where to start selling. Sorted!

You are in the same situation as me! Tricky! very tricky, It feels like you have half decided to sell the benz like i have with my DD, difficult but the 411 you've slaved over should fill that gap as DD parts hauler, shopping trip champion, credible anyway retrio ride. skoda is tricky if you can afford to keep it and store well and get back to it later, yeah or sell to a skud perv here etc. as i discovered yesterday, you have the answers.

cheers for the replies guys. reanimation - it was your post yesterday that got me thinking last night
As larry said - I'm doing feck all miles at the moment, and I have use of tashas fabia every other friday. so if I'm clever with my planning I could use that.
Moting the 411 and selling it isnt an option I don't think. I think if it was MoT'd I wouldnt be able to bring myself to sell it.
a process of elimination is making the benz look mighty vulnerable ...

Eek well its not untl you are upto full capacity that you know what your personal full capacity is. 411 will need a MOT anyway, unless the Vdub or retro lot see the potential and hard work. I'd definatey make teh bug the focus whatever. a bit of manic mindmapping should give you the solutions.

Pog - yeah, tell me about it! but after being d!cked around on ebay i started using the benz again .. now i don't have the immediate need for it
i was gonna get the skoda set up as my daily, but that just hasnt happened due to finances as much as anything. Moving the benz on would def bring in the most dollar ....
larry - i'll check today that he can bring it

Could you cut back in other areas by reducing your outgoings? What, like always poncing smokes off other people instead of buying his own? Oh, hang on a minute.... ;D

indeed Pog lol. My outgoings are about as low as they could be. Worse than blagging cigarettes, i even drank lime and soda at the pub last week! ;D i agree with you MWF - but when none of the good stuff is going and roadworthy is it really that good? i have a garage full of potential at the minute, but thats not really very practical.
