Right, I've been running the car for a week now. The 'cap jizz' has all gone and its stopped smoking. I've checked the water and there is a very slight rainbow effect and the oil seems as if it is a little watered down too. After about 5 minutes the tempreture guage goes upto 1/4 and stays there until the car is turned off. The only time it changed was on the motorway doing 70 and it went upto half.
Going to change the oil and water, but would you say that everythings OK now?

All sounds good to me. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Wait 'til it blows up

If, when the head gasket went last time, it let coolant and oil mix the 'rainbow effect' you describe could be what was left in the galleries/waterways when it was changed. Everything else sounds OK, I'd change the oil/coolant one more time for sake of your peace of mind, then keep your eye on it while you enjoy the car!!
My Escort did 17-odd years and 44000 miles of short journeys and still makes enough mayo to keep Hellman's on their toes. Uses next to no oil and no water at all though so I just ignore it. :-)
