hi guys I am new here...
I have bought a old car off eBay in london and I am in manchester. The guy assured me that the car drives to manchester ok and no problems. So i am going to bite the bullet and take a coach down there and drive back here... I don't have a trailer etc to haul it back here...
i want to sort out insurance incase something goes wrong (I keep dreaming that the wheels detach from the car on the M6...nuts i know....). can any of you recommend a good classic car insurer? I keep coming across Lancaster Insurance on the web, but there seems to be a fair bit of resentment with this company and not many happy bunnies out there. I have also heard that they have these clauses about no claim discounts etc ...
is anybody here insured with them? any problem?!? what about Peter Best, it also came up with a low quote. any advise welcome
PS. the other option I have is to pay 20 quid and get one day insurance from AA and see what to do when I get it back here...

Dayinsure from www.dayinsure.com/ Is only £10.50 for a day! As for full time insurance I am with Adrian Flux and have found them helpful and had no problems with them so far. You may want to consider getting breakdown cover as well for extra peace of mind Edited to say welcome to the forum Nearly forgot my manners there Ps What is this old car? We will need pictures

For classic insurance I'd recommend Footman James - especially as the cover usually includes breakdown service.
Oh, and when you do go to pick it up - check the wheel nuts. ;D

For classic cover I use and recommend Richardson Hosken, but I'd just get a day's insurance from Dayinsure, and spend the money you save on a wheelbrace

Another vote for a £10.50 Dayinsure jobbie - was really pleased with their service back before I insured the Charmant properly.

guys, I did try the dayinsure but my car is not listed. I don't think they do classic cars.
BTW car is a Hillman Hunter, 1976.

I assume this is the one you have won Looks very cool I checked on dayinsure and your right it doesn't show on the database and reading the FAQ section it says "A If vehicle does not appear on our data list then it is not acceptable vehicle for this type of insurance" also "Q What do I do if my classic car is not listed A We cannot insure Clasiic cars under this type of policy." Which is a bit odd, my 1978 Vauxhall Viva shows up no problems and is only two years older, maybe they have something against Hillmans

man how did you know?!?! jesus, you retro guys are all over the net!!
but seriously you can't have just guessed that... don't tell me I was bidding against you lot!?!? it was 360 till about 5 mins to the end, then it shot up to 460...
but I have to say the seller has been messing me about a bit. He didnt get back to me for a whole week (after many emails). He then got in touch saying that he had left the country and was in Ireland and might come back this weekend. I then chased him up and he said he could't come on the weekend either, so the latest is that he is coming back to the UK this tuesday. and leaves again the next day, so I only have tuesday to get my butt over there. I had to take time off work so I hope he doesn't change his plans again...
anyway this car hit all the right buttons, red hunter with the twin speedo dash and that massive steering wheel. I am drooling already...
by the way, what do you reckon? can it make it back to manchester?

I thought it might be that one even before you said it was a Hunter. Your first R-R post was the clue! ;D
Hunters are 4x108 aren't they...I'd be ordering a set of 7x13s from one of the advertisers in Retro/Classic Ford in no time! (and some lowering blocks/springs!).

I just used my physic powers Nah all I really did was use the completed search function on E-bay, they are not very common so it was obvious which one one you had bought. Can't see any reason why it wont get you back to Manchester, would probably even make it to Scotland in fact. Anyway thats half the fun of buying cars blind off E-bay, wondering if it's going to break down on the way home ;D By the time you get back you will have bonded with it and be one with the car
