What will this need to pass an MOT? I don't mean the lights and stuff, I mean the lack of doors etc and about the wheel arches, how much do they need to cover the wheel and anything else you can think off...

you don't need doors, but you will need wheel arches which extend as far as the edge of the wheels. Thats my 10 pence worth, I'm sure there are loads more things.

So the arches need to stick out past the wheels, but i've heard someone say they only need to cover 40% of the tyre when viewed from the top???
I only need her road legal so i can go green laning

Why an SVA? Its a proper Suzuki SJ413, got plates and vins and the like. Not modifying the suspension or owt, still original bodyshell, just cut down a bit???

Its got a modified chassis, non standard axles and rear suspension, I'm pretty sure you need an sva, alot more work involved than getting an MOT.

Quick search by someone with a mk1 golf revealed that...
Hi.
Part of the MOT is to check to see that the wheels do not foul the body.
Normally a wheel/tyre goes inside the wheel arch when the suspension is compressed. A wider tyre /wheel may cause it to foul the body work.
If the front tyres foul the inner arches or similar on full lock that too is a failure.
Other than that I can't sea any problems MOT wise.
Kev
Wheels protruding beyond the arch is illegal but not part of mot (sure ive written this before)copper shud have done u for breaking construction+use regs, not blamed mot.

Also
Doors removed is not a reason for failure - except for tailgates / dropsides / loading doors / boot lids. These 'must close securely'.
Rootes Member Hi All,
about a year ago I bought a little sprint car (Clan Crusader)
It is stripped out, no passenger seat etc..
you can not open the passenger door from the inside as the latch is faulty - has been for some time.
still trying to source a new lock.. spoke to previous owner and he used to MOT the car at the start of the season but used to take the doors off prior to the MOT.
so is it acceptable to remove the doors before taking the car to the test centre? this would give me more time to secure a new latch mech and still get an MOT
Regards
Si

wont need an sva for non standard axles or engines, thats just a nasty rumour, you have to drastically alter the appearance (ie new body shell not removing stuff or adding arches) or move the location of the engine before you have to worry about SVA tests.
you might have trouble getting an MOT because of sharp or hard bits on that though. ie the roll cage.
you should be able to get a ticket with only side lights and brake lights as well (and fog light if the thing is new enough)
easiest way is to find a friendly garage and see if they'll do you an MOT pretest for a few quid. get a list of what it'll need and then take it back to them for the ticket.

Isn't there some kind of points system now, where altering the chassis will attract so many points, changing axles will get some more points etc. and if you go above a certain number of points you have to take an SVA test?

Just had another thought about the arches, "lardyforehead" had a moonbug beachbuggy and that had wheels protruding so you might be right.
So far there have been all sorts of varying opinions, you had best take it to an MOT station as suggested and find out.

IT DOESNN'T FAIL ON THe wheel arches, but tis illegal. sharp edges are ok if not corrosion/damage. also you can take the front screen out. 8)

wheels and tyres can stick out past arches as long as the actual tread is covered, as has been said its not an mot fail, but you will get pulled over in ten seconds flat without arches.
